#throwback😍 to recording @yungchoyee in my studio. It’s an amazing song called 優秀 on her new album written by @xxevangelinexx and @super_candy_tang with lyrics by @wuiwei .
I’ve always been a firm believer in creating the best experience for the artist. You get the best vocals when the artist is comfortable.

And in my studio, I don’t use a tracking room, or a vocal booth. The singer is right behind me, and we just talk naturally and not through glass and a talkback mic.

I started this way recording my friends in my Mom’s basement back in Seattle. Cause I was kid, and didn’t know anything about recording. We just plugged in and hit record. And I kept doing it like this once I moved to Taipei, cause no one ever taught me recording. And I still only know how to plug in a mic and hit record.
.
But there’s a weird psychological thing that I’ve noticed by recording like this. It creates a team spirit between myself and the artist. It really feels like we’re in the trenches together. We’re on the same team when there’s no glass separating us. And there’s less stress for the artist as well. This isn’t some fancy expensive recording studio where every bad take is costing someone money. This is my tiny little home studio with my idiot dog running around and my girls peeking through the glass doors. It’s super chill. No pressure. If you can’t hit the high notes today, come back later when your in the mood. 🤙

On the flip side, you could also see it as super unprofessional🤣 But the songs always sound great, so...🤘
