《紐約時報：美國正在進行至少需時五年的原型疫苗大計劃，抓住未來所有大流行病毒》

美國國家過敏症和傳染病研究所所長 Anthony Fauci 博士在上周二的參議院聽證會上發表重大談話。

從某種意義上說，世界因新冠病毒的疫苗而走運。一個偶然的機會，科學家們剛好花了數年時間研究冠狀病毒，這次病毒的基因序列一公佈，即準確地開發出製造 Covid 疫苗所需的疫苗。

但是，如果下一次大流行來自引起拉沙熱的病毒，或者來自蘇丹埃波拉病毒株，或者來自尼帕病毒，將會發生什麼？

美國國家過敏和傳染病研究所所長 Anthony S. Fauci 博士正在推行一項雄心勃勃且昂貴的計劃，為此類情景做好準備。

他說，美國將每年花費“數十億美元”，進行一個原型疫苗大計劃：約五年時間才能獲得第一批成果，並需要大量科學家參與。

這個想法是製造“原型”疫苗，以防止來自大約 20 個可能引發新流行病的病毒家族的病毒。

如果病毒可以在世界大流行傳播前阻止，原型疫苗更廣泛地部署，才能建立更安全的世界。

“研究的重點是試圖限制對疫情的溢出，”斯克里普斯研究所疫苗研究員兼免疫學和微生物學系主任丹尼斯伯頓博士說。

原型疫苗項目是美國國家過敏和傳染病研究所疫苗研究中心副主任 Barney Graham 博士的創意。他於 2017 年 2 月在研究所主任的私人會議上，提出此想法。

The prototype vaccines project is the brainchild of Dr. Barney Graham, deputy director of the Vaccine Research Center at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. He presented the idea in February of 2017 at a private meeting of institute directors.

Year after year, viruses had threatened to turn into pandemics, Dr. Graham said: the H1N1 swine flu in 2009, Chikungunya in 2012, MERS in 2013, Ebola in 2014, Zika in 2016. Each time scientists scrambled to try to make a vaccine. Their only success was a partial one, with an Ebola vaccine that helped control the epidemic but would not work against other Ebola strains. The other epidemics waned before the vaccines could be made or tested.

“We were tired,” Dr. Graham said.

But researchers had new tools developed over the past decade that could make a big difference. They allowed scientists to view molecular structures of viruses, isolate antibodies that block the viruses and find out where they bind. The result was an ability to do “structure-based design” for new vaccines that target the pathogen more precisely.

When he heard Dr. Graham’s pitch in 2017, Dr. Fauci was inspired. “It struck me and others in the executive committee as something that is really doable,” Dr. Fauci said.

I centered the big idea around friendship, and thought about my memorable experiences with friends. That is when I came up with the wonderland design, made up of all the things we love and miss doing, from hanging out to just being outdoors together. This piece illustrates the adventures I’d love to go on with my friends once we can travel.

Although the day is beautiful, the mural at night also has a hidden surprise. Picture life together and the magic happens. When two ride on the bicycle together, the mural comes alive and lights up. The Sun will set and the Moon will be out with unicorns and stars lighting up one after the other. This was created to bring friends closer and create exciting memories together.

As we are stepping further into the new normal, I wish for people to connect, and continue capturing special moments, creating memories with their friends that will bring them closer to one another.

I love the new look of my Ferrari 458. The wrap is awesome but I knew from the early planning days of this project that the wheels would have to change too in order to match the new look. I had a crazy idea.. different colors for both the front and rear on a classic styled JDM inspired wheel. The perfect wheel for that is made by the wheel company I have loved and respected for a very long time now- HRE Wheels!! My Vintage 501M wheels are ready for pickup and I head down to HRE headquarters for a peek at the factory and a talk with President Alan about the future of HRE. From there I got a long ride home before getting to my favorite guys at Big Brand Tire in Simi Valley for the mounting, balancing and reveal of my Kaido Racer Bosozoku Ferrari new look!
