Dear Layla,
Thank you for giving me the privilege of being a mom. After having you, did i realize how much I've always wanted to be a mom. You've been everything I've prayed for and more. When i was pregnant, i silently prayed for a healthy, adventurous, curious, happy, chatty baby that's eager to learn and explore. Thank YOU for hearing my prayer. And Thank you, Layla, for showing us (your papa and i) how much we are able to love beyond what we thought we knew was love.
This journey is not without its struggles though. As much as i enjoy being your mother, i am faced with challenges, dilemmas and insecurities daily, some days are bigger than others. But I'm grateful for the support, im grateful we have our strong family unit, i am grateful we have each other to get us through each day. Despite the challenges, we start each day and end off every night with a smile on our faces and our hearts.
Your existence prompt me to reevaluate on my values, my behaviour, my beliefs, my conversations, my thoughts, my relationships, my future, my fears, my time, my health. I will strive to be as authentic as i can as a mother, building a trusting and respectful relationship with you. I am here not to teach, i am here to learn. I am human, and i will make mistakes, but i must remind myself to always practise self-compassion.
This is just the beginning. I don't know how the road ahead is gonna be, but let's go, let's have fun!
I love you Layla Woo. ❤

Daily advice for HK immigrants to the West:
Regarding the children’s spiritual needs, dialogue and not monologue is the key. I’m not particularly good at it, but I keep trying. As your kids gain different social and moral values than yours, the best questions to ask them is “Why do you feel that’s a good idea?” Focus on big issues and not on pet peeves such as whether men can wear earrings (i.e. from not wearing to how many to which ear) or whether your teens can color their hair or whether their skirts or shorts are too short etc. From some of your reactions towards my fashion sense (e.g. earring, boots and biker jacket…yes, I see you on social media!), you’re not going to fare well with your own kids. You can choose to insist on your own way and have your own kids hate you or you can choose to hear them out. Asking “Why do you think legalized weed smoking is a good idea?” is way better than proclaiming “your body is the temple of God,” especially some of y'all's bodies look more like a leaky shed than any temple for any religion. As your kids get older and more educated, they’re going to find out that you’re practically hijacking the Bible to support your desire for appearance of respectability rather than real spiritual depth. By then, you may not have a family left. At that point, don't blame Western liberalism. Blame your own lack of desire to listen and have real conversations.

When you’re local and part of the majority race, sometimes it can be hard to understand the negative situations that the other minorities experience on a daily basis. When @esh_wari shared with me on some of these experiences that she has been through, it reminded me on how we should always remember to not treat one another differently because of our “skin colour” or where we’re from.
COVID-19 has tried to divide our community by making us think that those from another country, or those of a different race/background are the ones carrying the virus. The reality is more complicated than that. We need to think about whether having such rifts in our society is helpful or harmful to all of us.
We should start to listen, initiate positive conversations, and make a conscious effort to consider our own actions and behaviours, and how it impacts others. And when appropriate, speak up against racism and xenophobia.
COVID-19 doesn’t “choose” who they want to infect also, so let’s fight this as one united people, ‘regardless of race, language or religion’ ❤️

daily conversations 在 Koe Yeet Youtube 的最佳解答
My grandma suffers from Alzheimer’s.
Alzheimer's does not simply target a body part or function. It robs away memories, experiences and personality. With every passing day, we witness a bit of what defines our loving grandma withering away before our eyes. ?
Nevertheless, I still believe that we should count our blessings. ? Despite all this, at least she seems happy now. For a while, this has been how our daily conversations look like now. She still fills our lives with her smiles, laughter, and love.
If you can spare a moment, do give your grandparents a call today especially if you haven't for a while. Don't just think about visiting them "soon" - make actual plans to visit them on a definite day and mark your calendar. ?
All they need is a little bit of your time and love.

Ways you can help:

It's been a relatively heavy few weeks. I'm sure a lot of you have been waking up with a heavy heart. 2020 has been a really defining year on TRUTH and I'm thankful for all the resources from the very powerful social media.
Really convicted and naive, I've been feeling guilt. As uncomfortable as it is, I also know what a privilege it is to be educated on racism rather than experiencing it. I didn't even know there was such thing as asian privilege. For the very first time, Isaac and I shared our first conversation on race. I'm not gonna lie, I didn't know how to get into it. Easing into it, obviously he needs to know what race is first and it's gonna take some time but we will get there. I will make it my life's mission to nurture him with love and resect. The road to support comes in many ways. You can start by having conversations in your own home. You can donate. You can protest. You can speak up when something isn't right. Just do what you can. Just love.
Sending you all my love.
Stay safe and kind.
