Can you imagine working over 17 hours a day, seven days a week? Thousands of foreign domestic workers in Taiwan do it every day, with some being on call 24 hours a day and performing household chores that are not a part of their jobs.

2. on call 24 hours a day 一天24小時待命
3. perform household chores

Foreign domestic workers in Taiwan do not have a weekly mandatory rest day, despite this being a global standard already enforced in Hong Kong and Singapore. According to statistics by the Ministry of Labor (MOL), 34.7 percent of foreign domestic workers did not receive any days off last year.

The record is a strike against Taiwan’s achievements in human rights and freedoms for its own citizens, especially stark after the internationally-lauded legalization of same-sex marriage in May, 2019. Compounding the lack of rest days are the long work hours — an average of 17.72 hours a day, according to a separate study commissioned in 2012 by the Executive Yuan’s Research, Development and Evaluation Commission (now part of the National Development Council).

The lack of rest and even basic privacy can cause mental and emotional strain to workers — effects that have already been reported to the government. A 2013 Control Yuan investigation into human rights issues faced by foreign domestic workers found that the lack of regular days off caused workers to fall into states of anxiety and stress in the long-term, and recommended that employers build “breathing time” for workers into their contracts.

On average, foreign domestic workers earn a total monthly salary with overtime amounting to NT$19,927, according to the MOL. In contrast, the average monthly salary for a Taiwanese domestic helper or caretaker in the Taipei area ranges from NT$45,000 to NT$75,000, according to the China Long-term Care Association

What a great man. Calm, assured, always studying. Just like me.
Before sharing my thoughts on the passing of the great Chadwick Boseman, I first offer my condolences to his family who meant so very much to him. To his wife, Simone, especially.
I inherited Marvel and the Russo Brothers' casting choice of T'Challa. It is something that I will forever be grateful for. The first time I saw Chad's performance as T'Challa, it was in an unfinished cut of Captain America: Civil War. I was deciding whether or not directing Black Panther was the right choice for me. I'll never forget, sitting in an editorial suite on the Disney Lot and watching his scenes. His first with Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, then, with the South African cinema titan, John Kani as T'Challa's father, King T'Chaka. It was at that moment I knew I wanted to make this movie. After Scarlett's character leaves them, Chad and John began conversing in a language I had never heard before. It sounded familiar, full of the same clicks and smacks that young black children would make in the States. The same clicks that we would often be chided for being disrespectful or improper. But, it had a musicality to it that felt ancient, powerful, and African.
In my meeting after watching the film, I asked Nate Moore, one of the producers of the film, about the language. "Did you guys make it up?" Nate replied, "That's Xhosa, John Kani's native language. He and Chad decided to do the scene like that on set, and we rolled with it." I thought to myself, "He just learned lines in another language, that day?" I couldn't conceive how difficult that must have been, and even though I hadn't met Chad, I was already in awe of his capacity as actor.
I learned later that there was much conversation over how T'Challa would sound in the film. The decision to have Xhosa be the official language of Wakanda was solidified by Chad, a native of South Carolina, because he was able to learn his lines in Xhosa, there on the spot. He also advocated for his character to speak with an African accent, so that he could present T'Challa to audiences as an African king, whose dialect had not been conquered by the West.
I finally met Chad in person in early 2016, once I signed onto the film. He snuck past journalists that were congregated for a press junket I was doing for "Creed," and met with me in the green room. We talked about our lives, my time playing football in college, and his time at Howard studying to be a director, about our collective vision for T'Challa and Wakanda. We spoke about the irony of how his former Howard classmate Ta-Nehisi Coates was writing T'Challa's current arc with Marvel Comics. And how Chad knew Howard student Prince Jones, who's murder by a police officer inspired Coates' memoir Between The World and Me.
I noticed then that Chad was an anomaly. He was calm. Assured. Constantly studying. But also kind, comforting, had the warmest laugh in the world, and eyes that seen much beyond his years, but could still sparkle like a child seeing something for the first time.
That was the first of many conversations. He was a special person. We would often speak about heritage and what it means to be African. When preparing for the film, he would ponder every decision, every choice, not just for how it would reflect on himself, but how those choices could reverberate. "They not ready for this, what we are doing…" "This is Star Wars, this is Lord of the Rings, but for us… and bigger!" He would say this to me while we were struggling to finish a dramatic scene, stretching into double overtime. Or while he was covered in body paint, doing his own stunts. Or crashing into frigid water, and foam landing pads. I would nod and smile, but I didn't believe him. I had no idea if the film would work. I wasn't sure I knew what I was doing. But I look back and realize that Chad knew something we all didn't. He was playing the long game. All while putting in the work. And work he did.
He would come to auditions for supporting roles, which is not common for lead actors in big budget movies. He was there for several M'Baku auditions. In Winston Duke's, he turned a chemistry read into a wrestling match. Winston broke his bracelet. In Letitia Wright's audition for Shuri, she pierced his royal poise with her signature humour, and would bring about a smile to T'Challa's face that was 100% Chad.
While filming the movie, we would meet at the office or at my rental home in Atlanta, to discuss lines and different ways to add depth to each scene. We talked costumes, military practices. He said to me "Wakandans have to dance during the coronations. If they just stand there with spears, what separates them from Romans?" In early drafts of the script. Eric Killmonger's character would ask T'Challa to be buried in Wakanda. Chad challenged that and asked, "What if Killmonger asked to be buried somewhere else?"
Chad deeply valued his privacy, and I wasn't privy to the details of his illness. After his family released their statement, I realised that he was living with his illness the entire time I knew him. Because he was a caretaker, a leader, and a man of faith, dignity and pride, he shielded his collaborators from his suffering. He lived a beautiful life. And he made great art. Day after day, year after year. That was who he was. He was an epic firework display. I will tell stories about being there for some of the brilliant sparks 'till the end of my days. What an incredible mark he's left for us.
I haven't grieved a loss this acute before. I spent the last year preparing, imagining and writing words for him to say, that we weren't destined to see. It leaves me broken knowing that I won't be able to watch another close-up of him in the monitor again or walk up to him and ask for another take.
It hurts more to know that we can't have another conversation, or Facetime, or text message exchange. He would send vegetarian recipes and eating regimens for my family and me to follow during the pandemic. He would check in on me and my loved ones, even as he dealt with the scourge of cancer.
In African cultures, we often refer to loved ones that have passed on as ancestors. Sometimes you are genetically related. Sometimes you are not. I had the privilege of directing scenes of Chad's character, T'Challa, communicating with the ancestors of Wakanda. We were in Atlanta, in an abandoned warehouse, with bluescreens, and massive movie lights, but Chad's performance made it feel real. I think it was because from the time that I met him, the ancestors spoke through him.
It's no secret to me now how he was able to skilfully portray some of our most notable ones. I had no doubt that he would live on and continue to bless us with more. But it is with a heavy heart and a sense of deep gratitude to have ever been in his presence, that I have to reckon with the fact that Chad is an ancestor now. And I know that he will watch over us, until we meet again.

🔍 Stage 5:Interview
🔺 Part 2:6 steps for preparation before an interview
1️⃣ Arranging & confirming interview details.
After receiving the interview notice, be sure to confirm the date, time, venue, interview process with the company and if you need to prepare and bring any specific documents or certifications. If you are traveling to a location that is quite far, you can try to ask if the company is willing to subsidize your transportation fees or if they are comfortable settling for a video interview instead.
Remember to arrange for your transportation in advance to the interview location and always arrive earlier than your expected time.
2️⃣ Deploy your best marketing skills.
An interview is all about selling yourself and your works to the company and for the job position, it is not about bragging how good you are, be careful of the difference!
The best technique is using your personal charm to market yourself. When preparing for an interview in the UK, other than paying attention to basic dressing etiquettes and formalities, do not be too humble as well. Try your best to display your merits, experience and value that can defeat other candidates. Do not be shy and rehearse your interviews often so that you do not get nervous during the real deal!
3️⃣ Resonating your works with the company.
It is crucial that your portfolio resonates with the company’s ethos. Learn and familiarize yourself with these details from the company website, reports and projects that they might have done. This helps you to engage deeper in conversation during the interview.
You could talk about a few of their projects which you admire. How it has influenced or inspired you and how your design beliefs and interest is similar to the company. Alternatively, you could also show a portfolio that is more aligned with what the company does so that you can discuss your works on a deeper level with them.
It is also recommended that you know your interviewers in advance so that you understand what draws their attention and what conversation topics will engage them. Check the company's website, LinkedIn, or even a google search to read up on your interviewers profile, articles they have written before and their experiences.
4️⃣ Portfolio’s target audience.
Other than bringing your portfolio works sent in during application, it is recommended that you bring an additional 1-2 completed works targeted towards the design nature of the company.
5️⃣ Understand the work scope and remunerations of the job.
Read the recruitment advertisement again, understand the scope of works and think of how the job plays a role within the company organisation. What would be the challenges? What are the takeaways from the job? Evaluate and weigh out these elements.
If you have had work experiences, did you meet similar challenges with your previous job? How did you manage to overcome them? More importantly, what are your views and thoughts about the job position. What can you value-add to the company?
In addition, don’t forget to check out the remuneration packages of similar job vacancies. Towards the end of the interview is where you would be asked about your ideal salary range and job package details – overtime pay, travel sick leaves, vacation days, insurances, time flexibility etc.
Consider the package in whole and negotiate clearly and confidently. It is important that you display a balance between your financial concerns and genuine interest and desire for the job. Avoid being too eager and overbearing during these talks.
6️⃣ Your curiosity towards the company.
What else do you want to learn about the company? An interview goes both ways; hence it is recommended that you prepare in advance some questions that you would like to ask the company as well.
This not only shows your deep interest towards the company but also helps to establish a closer connection between both parties. Be confident and enthusiastic, try to engage and extend the conversation topic or even start new ones. Let the company feel your excitement and curiosity!

I recorded the process of bleaching my roots the last time I went 😊
It's a lot of waiting and hair washing and I do this every 5-6 weeks haha..ha..ha.ha........
A heads up that a root touch up is normally a double process, but mine would be considered a triple process (a weaker bleach 2x has been easier on my hair).
There's not much talking or anything this time as it's a more show-and-tell thing, but nonetheless thank you for watching! 💕

Zydrunas Ilgauskas didn't care who was or wasn't wearing a 76ers' jersey.
Four years between victories over Philadelphia was long enough.
Ilgauskas scored 28 points and had a key putback, assist and
block in overtime as the Cavaliers snapped a 16-game losing streak
against the Sixers with a 91-88 win Saturday night.
The 7-foot-3 Ilgauskas added eight rebounds and a career-high
seven assists for the Cavs, who hadn't beaten the undermanned
Sixers since April 2, 1999, at Philadelphia.
"Every win is a good win for us," Ilgauskas said. "We only
won 17 games last year, so they're all big. That's a tough team to
beat."
Rookie LeBron James had 22 points, eight assists, five rebounds
and a huge block with 11 seconds left in overtime for the
Cavaliers, who won it with defense down the stretch.
With Cleveland clinging to 90-88 lead, James was caught by a
pick in the lane but raced across the floor and swatted away rookie
Kyle Korver's jumper from the baseline.
"They used (Allen) Iverson as a decoy," James said. "When
Korver got it, I knew he was going to shoot and I just had one of
my high school moments."
Korver then missed a 3-pointer with 5.5 seconds left, and Kevin
Ollie made one of two free throws for Cleveland. Philadelphia guard
Eric Snow's desperation heave at the horn was way off.
The Sixers played without their starting frontcourt for the
second straight game. Derrick Coleman, Glenn Robinson and Kenny
Thomas sat out with injuries.
Iverson, the NBA's leading scorer, matched a season-low with 19
points on 8-of-29 shooting. After leading the Sixers to a win over
the defending champion San Antonio Spurs on Friday, Iverson, who
was hounded by Ricky Davis, just didn't have it.
"If I have an off-night, I have an off-night," Iverson said.
"But I don't do my teammates any favors if I quit trying. You have
to keep fighting and hopefully something will happen at the end.
That's the way it nearly went."
Marc Jackson had 19 points and 15 rebounds for the Sixers, who
shot 34 percent. Snow was just 3-for-15 from the field.
Carlos Boozer, who had 15 points and 15 rebounds, opened the OT
with a jumper and then scored on a dunk off a nice inside feed from
Ilgauskas to put the Cavs up 88-84 with 2:47 left.
After John Salmons scored for Philly, the Cavs crashed the
boards with Ilgauskas finally following in a miss underneath to
make it 90-86.
Ilgauskas, who played the entire OT with five personal fouls,
then blocked Salmons' shot with 1:27 left.
"It was Z's night," Iverson said of Ilgauskas. "They ran
their offense through him. He shot well and caused us problems with
his passing, too."
Aaron McKie's two free throws pulled Philly to 90-88, but the
Cavs survived the comeback with some stifling defense -- a rarity
for them in the early season -- and just enough offense down the
stretch.
"This is a huge win for us," James said. "We didn't buckle
under pressure and we executed in overtime. That's a big, big step
for us."

Allen Iverson scored enough points to catch Shaquille O'Neal but not enough for the Philadelphia 76ers to catch the Charlotte Hornets.
Iverson scored 39 points to take over the league scoring lead from O'Neal but the Hornets found the range in overtime and dealt the 76ers a 117-110 loss that dumped them into seventh place in the Eastern Conference.
Elden Campbell scored seven of his 18 points in overtime for the Hornets, who blew a 21-point first-half lead and needed a reverse dunk by Eddie Jones off an airball by Chucky Brown to force the extra session with 2.9 seconds left in regulation.
"We missed our free throws in the fourth quarter (5-of-9) and missed a big box-out at the end to win the game," Philadelphia coach Larry Brown said. "We talked about boxing out during the timeout. Eddie Jones was incredible for them."
"That was luck. I saw the ball was short," said Jones, who scored 28 points and did a credible job on Iverson.
Iverson had given the 76ers a 100-98 lead with a 3-pointer with 6.8 seconds to go. But he scored only four points in overtime, missing 21-of-35 shots and 7-of-16 free throws overall, as his play resembled the wild offensive game he displayed as a rookie.
"The kid is awesome," Hornets interim coach Paul Silas said. "They ran plays and set great picks for him and he made us pay."
"In overtime, they made some shots and we missed some," Iverson said. "We just didn't execute like we'd like to."
Nevertheless, Iverson is averaging 26.61 points while O'Neal, the superstar center of the Los Angeles Lakers, is at 26.47. On Wednesday, Iverson's 76ers host the Detroit Pistons and O'Neal's Lakers entertain Portland.
If the Sixers (27-22) win, they will be no lower than seventh in the East. They could finish sixth if Milwaukee (28-21) loses at New Jersey or as low as eighth if they lose and New York (26-23) defeats Miami.
"Seventh or eighth means we are still in the playoffs," said Sixers center Matt Geiger, who had 22 points and 13 rebounds but was saddled by foul trouble in trying to defend Campbell in overtime. "We played well enough to get in. ... We will just have to get started tonight with playoff basketball. It is upon us."
David Wesley had 19 points and 10 assists, Bobby Phills scored 17 points and Eldridge Recasner added 16 for Charlotte, which was eliminated from the playoff race Monday but bounced back to beat Philadelphia for the first time in three meetings this season. The Hornets scored the most points against the 76ers this season after combining for only 136 in the first two games.
"We know we're a playoff team," said Jones, who was acquired in a mid-season trade. "We may not be in the playoffs, but we know we're a playoff team."
After a 4-11 start that led to the resignation of coach Dave Cowens, Charlotte (25-24) has gone 21-13 under Silas and visits Boston on Wednesday.
"It's an important game," Silas said. "We're going to do all we can to win it. It would be nice to finish the season on a winning note."
Campbell opened the overtime scoring with a free throw to give the Hornets the lead for good and Wesley drilled a 3-pointer. Philadelphia's Aaron McKie made a jumper but Campbell responded with a nine-footer for a 106-102 lead with 2:59 to go.
Iverson made two free throws but Campbell hit another jumper. McKie's basket cut the deficit to 108-106 with 1:56 left before Phills, Campbell and Jones scored in a 38-second span to seal it at 114-106 with 43 seconds to play.
"We went to Elden a lot late in the game trying to foul Geiger out," Silas said. "He made several big shots in the overtime."
Chucky Brown scored 14 points and Campbell grabbed 11 rebounds for the Hornets, who shot 47 percent (39-of-83) from the field and made 32-of-39 free throws. Campbell and Wesley made six steals each and Jones added five and four blocks.
Rookie Larry Hughes scored 13 points and McKie and Eric Snow added 12 apiece for the Sixers, who shot 45 percent (42-of-94) and held a 48-44 rebounding edge. George Lynch grabbed eight rebounds and Snow handed out eight assists.
The Hornets shot 57 percent (12-of-21) and held the Sixers to just 27 percent (6-of-22) in the first quarter, opening a 36-16 lead. Jones scored 12 points in the period and his dunk gave Charlotte its largest lead at 49-28 with 4:09 left in the second quarter.
The Sixers closed to 58-42 at halftime and Iverson and Geiger scored nine points each in the third quarter to help cut the deficit to 77-74. Hughes' three-point play gave Philadelphia an 80-79 lead with 10:08 left in the fourth quarter.
"If we could have guven the energy we gave in the second half in the beginning of the game, we could have won this game," Brown said. "We can't expect to play this way during the playoffs."
