在美國，每年九月的秋分前後 (9/21~9/23)，有一首經典老歌的點播率會突然暴增──那
就是球風火合唱團 (Earth, Wind & Fire) 1978 年的知名金曲〈September〉！時隔 42
年，這首歌在今年九月也不意外的出現在知名歌詞網站 genius 上，並位居查詢熱度榜
冠軍。究竟這首比你我都要資深的歌曲，有什麼樣的魅力讓人百聽不膩呢？我們先來看看
歌詞：

＊〈September〉由球風火合唱團的 Maurice White、Al McKay、與 Allee Willis 共同
創作。

(還記得 9 月第 21 日的晚上嗎？)

＊以節氣來說，秋分通常在 9/22 或9/23到來，因此9/21傍晚正好意味著夏季結束時。不
過創作人之一 Allee Willis 表示寫這首歌和節氣並無關連，她說：

「寫這首歌的時候，我們嘗試了九月的每個日子：1 號、2 號、3 號...結果聽起來最順
的是 21 號。一直不斷有人很興奮地來問我為啥挑選 21 號，而答案是沒有特殊意義，只
是因為比其他日子較好唱而已。我從寫歌當中學到很重要的一課：不要讓歌詞阻擋歌曲的
韻律，所以～抱歉啦！」

＊副歌歌詞「Ba-dee-ya」是什麼意思？
在接受音樂網站 SongFacts 的訪問時，作曲人之一 Allee Willis 表示，她起初不喜歡
這個由三音節所組成的歌詞 (Ba-dee-ya)，她說：「我絕對不能接受那種毫無意義或是不
完整的歌詞，不過很高興我最後放棄了這個想法。我說：『你不能把 bada-ya 從副歌裡
刪掉，那一定代表了些什麼！』Maurice White 則是說：『不，那聽起來很棒啊！人們聽
了會記得的。』後來就不管它了，我們確實嘗試過換其他的字，但聽起來都超拙，感謝老
天爺最後沒換掉是對的！」

＊Earth, Wind & Fire 合唱團 1969 年於芝加哥伊利諾伊州成立，曲風融合節奏藍調、
靈魂樂、Funk、Disco、流行、搖滾、電子舞曲、以及爵士樂。曾獲六次葛萊美獎及 20
次提名。擁有超過 50 張金唱片及白金唱片。至今，他們唱片的全球銷量超過 9000 萬
張。

〈September〉的歌詞其實就是簡單明瞭的與愛人回顧一段曾經擁有的戀愛時光，主唱
Maurice White 的歌聲勾起每個人心中「最初」的那種青澀美好，加上輕鬆愉悅的韻律
和抓耳的詞曲，讓〈September〉每逢 9 月 21 日的點播率就會暴增，也成為輕鬆不燒腦
的派對百搭歌曲：如果聚會裡同時有長輩和年輕人，播放這首歌絕對不失禮又能炒熱氣氛
！

＊〈September〉的重要性：
〈September〉1978 年在美國的 R&B 排行榜上位居第一名，並且在 Billboard Hot 100
上排名第八。作為一首歡樂的經典歌曲，〈September〉影響了電影、詩詞、其他創作以
「九月」命名，各種歌曲改編版本已出現在無數的廣告與電影中 (例如 2016 年《魔髮精
靈》當中就收錄了改編版)。洛杉磯甚至將 9 月 21 日定為「Earth, Wind & Fire 」
節日，以紀念這個樂團對這座城市的意義。

〈September〉不僅只是一首年代久遠的「老歌」，它乘載了那個時代創作者愛用的「回
憶」主題，保存了許多長輩輕狂的記憶，最重要的是，現在聽還是能夠令人想跳舞！
