Laughter is what spills over The Edge of an inspired life. ✨

A few months ago, I thought I was going to be spending another summer in Taiwan. Then, a friend in Taiwan announced that she was moving back to the U.S. After talking to her, I was inspired to go home this summer.

Despite having to travel while unvaccinated (at the time) and the extra costs of getting COVID tests and the quarantine hotel, the trip was exactly what I needed.

During my one month visit to the U.S., I finally got to see my family who I hadn't seen in 2 years. I also got both doses of the vaccine. (The vaccine rollout is a bit slower in Taiwan.) I bought clothes that fit me and ate all the foods I had missed. The cherry on top was seeing a few of my friends (after mostly staying at home for two weeks.)

Turns out I had the summer I never thought possible during these times.

So this just happened: At 7:00 PM this evening NYC clapped and cheered for all the Essential Workers keeping this city going. Thank you to all those on the front lines!

In Astoria, NYC, this wave of applause resounded, echoing in the canyon in the back of the building where I live for a good 3 minutes. Even I joined in with my neighbors as I tried to make some noise out my window. I clapped as best as I could with my “wonky left arm/shoulder” and I may have yelled out a “Thank You!!”.

To me it felt like more than just a loud way to show our appreciation to all those Essential Workers. It was a way to collectively make some noise as a group, in unity. To me, perhaps because I already spend so much time in solitude, it was an emotional release to let out a “Woo” at the top of my lungs — instead of a pent up scream of losing my mind. Damn.

I think it may have been a release for the entire City of New York.

In my overly dramatic mind, all of this applause and noise and yelling and cheering all around me almost felt like a collective roar at the sky, at Heaven itself, for the fate which is enveloping humanity at this moment.

And as I pondered this and took notice of neighbors out on fire escapes and hands clapping in windows, I glanced to my right and realized why all those out on their fire escapes were turning to the right and directing their cheering in that direction. It was because that is the direction of the hospital in Astoria, and looking to the right and out the window, I realized that the ambulance bay is probably the length of a city block away from me. I can see it. I know this intrinsically as I have lived here for over 20 years now and the sirens from the emergency vehicles around that hospital often startle me awake in the middle of the night. Having a hospital on the corner of my large city block always felt like a good thing, and it still does, but I must say I didn’t give the implications from the pandemic much thought until I actually saw that ambulance bay, open to the back alley behind my building.

I still don’t want to think about those implications. I’d rather think about courage and dedication of the hospital staff who came out in their white and green scrubs, in protective covering, in full “PPE” (Personal Protective Equipment) into that ambulance bay. They barely paused to take in the cheering directed at them as they went about their duties. For me it was a startling glimpse into the edge of the trenches on the front line of this battle with this latest scourge on Humanity.

CARDAMOM ROSE REVIEW + THERAPEUTATE HOUSE OVERVIEW: Hey guys, in this video I’ll be introducing you guys to Therapeutate Parfum, they are an all-natural niche house based in NYC, and they aim to make fragrances that feels therapeutic. My favorite one from this house is Cardamom Rose, and that’s the one I will be reviewing today. Other than reviewing Cardamom Rose, I will also be giving you guys an overview of the house of Therapeutate in general.

FRAGRANCES MENTIONED

Cardamom Rose- This is a spicy rose fragrance, which is a genre that’s becoming more and more popular, and with increasing popularity, comes increasing competition. And the question is, does this fragrance fair against the best of the best? Watch and find out!

Modern Patchouli- Peppery Patchouli opening, develops into an orangey vibe. Patchouli softens and becomes earthier after a few seconds. Nothing too special.

Chrys 14- Reminds me of a Christmas tree shaped car fresher that hangs in people’s car. It’s very green at the opening then it transition to a more citrusy feel with a grapefruit like sweetness. Present citrus scent, not too sharp, not too stingy.

Royal Water- Starts off very fresh with a strong note of basil and lemon. Develops into a geranium and lavender vibe, the basil freshness and lemon still lingers after the other notes creeps in, creating a quite aromatic appeal. Nicely blend fragrance. Light and pleasing.

Taosi- Starts off very green. Like old green leaves. Develops into a fresh herbal green scent. Noticeable notes are lime, basil, with a touch of floral sweetness. Might be the geranium. Too strong on the herbal green notes for me.

Osirius- Opens up with a very heavy oakmoss. Too strong for me. After a few minutes the galbanum seeps through, adding a light floral vibe. Still too mossy.

Exotic Flower- This is a very light white floral scent. Leading with jasmine and a floral sweet undertone. The fragrance is fairly linear. Pleasing to smell, very therapeutic. This is actually my 2nd favorite if I was to pick one, I do like jasmine, I like white floral in general, and this is nicely done.
