นอกจาก Bangkok Post แล้ว ยังมีสื่ออีกหลายสำนักที่อยู่ภายใต้บริษัทนี้ด้วย

ย้อนกลับไปในปี พ.ศ. 2489 หรือเมื่อ 74 ปีที่แล้ว
หนังสือพิมพ์รายวันภาษาอังกฤษฉบับแรกของไทย ได้ถือกำเนิดขึ้น ในชื่อ “Bangkok Post”

ผู้ก่อตั้ง Bangkok Post คือ พลตรี อเล็กซานเดอร์ แม็คโดนัลด์ ทหารชาวอเมริกัน และคุณประสิทธิ์ ลุลิตานนท์

แต่หลังจากนั้นมา ก็มีการเปลี่ยนแปลงผู้ถือหุ้นใหญ่หลายครั้ง
จนในปี พ.ศ. 2506 ลอร์ด ธอมป์สัน เจ้าพ่อแห่งวงการหนังสือพิมพ์ ก็ได้เข้ามาเป็นผู้ถือหุ้นใหญ่สุดของ Bangkok Post

ช่วงที่ลอร์ด ธอมป์สันเข้ามาบริหารกิจการแห่งนี้
เขาได้นำอุปกรณ์ และเทคนิคการพิมพ์สมัยใหม่เข้ามาใช้ในไทยเป็นครั้งแรก
ทำให้กิจการของ Bangkok Post เติบโตเรื่อยมา

ปัจจุบันบริษัท บางกอก โพสต์ จำกัด (มหาชน) จดทะเบียนอยู่ในตลาดหลักทรัพย์แห่งประเทศไทย และมีมูลค่าบริษัทประมาณ 745 ล้านบาท

โดยมีผู้ถือหุ้นใหญ่อันดับหนึ่ง ก็คือ คุณสุทธิเกียรติ จิราธิวัฒน์ ที่ถือหุ้นในบริษัทนี้ถึง 24.2%
และยังมีท่านอื่นในตระกูลจิราธิวัฒน์ เป็นผู้ถือหุ้นใหญ่ในอันดับแรกๆ คิดเป็นสัดส่วนรวมแล้วกว่า 43.6%

นอกจากนี้ คุณสุทธิเกียรติ ยังดำรงตำแหน่งเป็นประธานกรรมการบริษัท และประธานกรรมการบริหารอีกด้วย

แล้วตระกูลจิราธิวัฒน์เริ่มเข้ามาในกิจการนี้ตอนไหน?

ย้อนกลับไปในปี พ.ศ. 2519 Bangkok Post ที่ในตอนนั้น ชื่อว่า บริษัท โพสต์ พับลิชชิง จำกัด ได้มีการเพิ่มทุนจดทะเบียนจาก 1 ล้านบาท เป็น 1.4 ล้านบาท โดยมีจุดประสงค์เพื่อต้องการให้มีคนไทยเข้ามาเป็นผู้ถือหุ้นในบริษัท ทำให้เริ่มมีกลุ่มคนไทยก้าวเข้ามาในธุรกิจนี้ ซึ่งหนึ่งในนั้นก็คือ ตระกูลจิราธิวัฒน์

ต่อมาในปี พ.ศ. 2527 Bangkok Post ก็ได้จดทะเบียนเข้าตลาดหลักทรัพย์ ทำให้มีคนไทยเข้ามาเป็นเจ้าของกิจการมากขึ้นอีก

แล้วในปัจจุบันผลประกอบการของ บริษัท บางกอก โพสต์ จำกัด (มหาชน) เป็นอย่างไร?
ปี 2560 รายได้ 1,367 ล้านบาท ขาดทุน 359 ล้านบาท
ปี 2561 รายได้ 1,270 ล้านบาท ขาดทุน 168 ล้านบาท
ปี 2562 รายได้ 815 ล้านบาท ขาดทุน 309 ล้านบาท

โดยรายได้ของบริษัทแบ่งเป็น
- ธุรกิจหนังสือพิมพ์ 64%
- ธุรกิจนิตยสารต่างประเทศ 20%
- ธุรกิจผลิตคอนเทนต์และรายการโทรทัศน์ 15%
- รายได้อื่นๆ 1%

จะเห็นได้ว่ารายได้ของบริษัทลดลงอย่างต่อเนื่อง
และประสบผลขาดทุนอย่างหนักติดต่อกันหลายปี

สาเหตุสำคัญของเรื่องนี้ มาจากการที่คนหันมานิยมเสพคอนเทนต์จากสื่อออนไลน์ มากกว่าการเสพคอนเทนต์จากสื่อสิ่งพิมพ์

ทำให้ในปี พ.ศ. 2562 บริษัทต้องยุติสิ่งพิมพ์ที่ไม่ทำกำไรหลายสื่อลง
เช่น หนังสือพิมพ์แจกฟรี M2F และนิตยสาร Science Illustrated

ส่วนหนังสือพิมพ์โพสต์ทูเดย์ และนิตยสาร CLEO ก็ต้องยุติการผลิตสิ่งพิมพ์ แล้วเปลี่ยนมาทำแบบออนไลน์แทน

ในขณะเดียวกัน ในส่วนของหนังสือพิมพ์ Bangkok Post ซึ่งเป็นเสมือนกล่องดวงใจของบริษัท ก็ได้เปลี่ยนเป็นการว่าจ้างบริษัทอื่นเพื่อมาผลิตหนังสือพิมพ์แทน

เหตุผลที่บริษัทต้องทำเช่นนี้ ก็เพื่อลดค่าใช้จ่ายให้ได้มากที่สุดเท่าที่จะทำได้ เพื่อให้บริษัทสามารถประคับประคองสถานะทางการเงินต่อไป

ซึ่งเราคงต้องติดตามกันต่อไปว่า
ในยุคที่หนังสือพิมพ์กำลังค่อยๆ ถูกลืมไป
Bangkok Post หนังสือพิมพ์ภาษาอังกฤษที่เก่าแก่ที่สุดของไทย จะปรับตัวเพื่ออยู่รอดต่อไป อย่างไร..

ซึ่งมีสัดส่วนในการถือหุ้นอยู่ที่ 8.7%

โดยธนาคารกรุงเทพ เริ่มเข้ามาถือหุ้นบริษัท Bangkok Post ตั้งแต่ช่วงแรกๆ ที่ บริษัท โพสต์ พับลิชชิง เริ่มขายหุ้นให้คนไทย

Christopher Janwong McKiggan's piano playing has been called as “masterful, highly contrasted and sharply characterized” (Gramophone magazine) and he has been hailed as a pianist "[with] astounding technique… startling poise and control" (Kansas City Star), "[with] astonishing virtuosity and piano coloration" (The Citizen), “proving to be Colossus, converting every piece into a virtuoso composition” (The Manila Times) and been called the best hope for a global music of the future (Fanfare). Christopher won the Gold medal in the Seattle International Piano Competition, a top prize as laureate at the prestigious 12th UNISA International Piano Competition (wfimc) and won numerous other awards including second prize in the Isabel Scionti International Music Competition, first prize in the Bradshaw and Buono International Piano Competition and awards in other national and international competitions around the world. He is also the recipient of the Presser Award for an upcoming international relations project titled "Resonance of Hope". He has been featured in over a dozen magazines in Thailand (Harper’s Bazaar, Elle, Esquire, Cosmopolitan, L’officiel, L’optimum Thai editions, among others), appeared in many TV programs, and been featured in numerous newspapers around the globe. He has also been featured on multiple TV and Radio programs around the globe including being a resident artist for “Performance Today” on American Public Media. He is currently a Doctoral of Musical Arts Candidate under Professor Jon Kimura Parker. Furthermore, Christopher spends his weekends playing his PlayStation 4.

Rob Landes is an award-winning violinist who started playing the violin at 3 years in Orem, Utah. Born to a large musical family, Rob gave his first solo recital at 10 years old, and at 12 performed in the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on the Disney Channel with the Disney Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra. Also at age 12, Rob founded a piano trio that performed in concert at Brigham Young University, as well as for private events and special occasions throughout his teenage years.
Rob has won first prize in the Utah Symphony Youth Guild music competition and as a result, debuted with the Utah Symphony at 13 performing the first movement of Bruch’s Violin Concerto in g minor. Rob went on to win numerous local and state competitions and soloed with the Utah Valley Symphony, San Diego Chamber Orchestra, BYU Philharmonic, and BYU Chamber Orchestra. As a first violinist of the BYU Chamber Orchestra, Rob performed in more than twenty cities throughout central and southern Europe, and as concertmaster of the orchestra, gave a concert to a sold-out audience in New York’s Carnegie Hall.
While studying at Rice, Rob began covering rock and pop music, and upon returning to Salt Lake City after graduation, began playing with a looper pedal which he uses to create intricate and stunning arrangements of today and yesterday’s most popular music Rob recently won the award for "Best Instrumental" at the Utah Music Awards for his rendition of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah”. He already has about 3 million views on his YouTube channel, so check him out!
