Thanks to @ayambrandsg for sponsoring us the past year 💕 I do get asked a lot about MERCURY IN FISH 🐟 Okay let's set the record straight: .
🐟 Mercury is present in small (trace) amounts in many things in the environment - water, air, food etc. You literally can’t avoid it all together.
🐟 Fish can absorb some mercury from the ocean. .
🐟 Most fish have such low levels it isn't even detectable and poses no risk to human health, same as the air we breathe and the water we drink .
🐟A few larger predator species of fish do container higher levels of mercury and should be limited or avoided 🐟 Pregnant and breastfeeding women and children under 6 yrs should limit their intake of fish especially avoiding those high in mercury .
🐟 The high mercury fish are orange roughy, shark (flake), swordfish, broadbill and marlin .
🐟 All other fish are safe and have benefits for including regularly .
🐟The health benefits of low mercury (and high omega-3) fish e.g. salmon, tuna, sardines, FAR out weigh any risks .
🐟Canned tuna and salmon actually tend to have LESS mercury than their fresh alternatives as the canned varieties generally use smaller fish .
🐟If you are concerned re environmental sustainability choose wild caught, sustainable farmed, dolphin friendly fish rather than the farmed variety. Wild caught also have more beneficial EPA + DHA omega-3 .
