Lindau, Germany

In the middle of the crisp winter twilight, I gaze through the upward branches that were very much alive with thick leaves to see how the sharp-edged silhouette loses its spirit among the gradient sky color in the order of the blue, yellow and orange.
Returning to this dreamy island again, what I long for is to see the burgeoning sunset colors and the comfy summer evening climate. Nevertheless, the twilight is still endowed with color nectarine, and the Christmas spirit stealthily effects the neighborhood. The intense holiday joy spilled in the streets of Lindau makes us as outsiders strongly feel how much Germans value their Christmas traditions.
Christmas is not only a religious holiday but a perfect timing for family members to strengthen their sense of belongingness. Shopping and drinking the body-warming glühwein (hot wine) in a sub-zero temperature, family members and friends gather in small groups at the outdoor market. It brings me back to my childhood memories of occasions of people congratulating each other during the Chinese New Year. Those greetings and loud laughs have simply become the unforgettable New Years memories of my childhood. Thus, it finally dawns on me as to the source of my belonging feelings for Christmas markets.
