What is #Asia’s #ZeroCovid exit strategy?
Across Asia -- from Hong Kong to Australia, New Zealand to Singapore -- governments have staked their pandemic success on eliminating the virus.
Taking a "Zero Covid" strategy, these places have managed to keep cases down through strict border controls and quarantines. But as people in the West -- especially in the UK and US -- begin to experience a pre-pandemic normal, people across Asia will go through yet another season of closed borders.
To rejoin the rest of the world, vaccination is key for the region’s pandemic success stories... not just for reopening, but for survival.
HKU Dean of Medicine Gabriel Leung says getting everyone vaccinated during the northern hemisphere summer is critical, otherwise "we could be facing a worse pandemic in this part of the world that has never really been exposed to the virus on a large scale yet."
