《兩款地瓜啤酒 Two Sweet Potato Beers》
Taiwan Ale Ngahi 66 v. Coedo Beniaka
Ngahi 即泰雅族語「地瓜」之意,66 代表使用台農66號紅心地瓜釀造。酒色稍淡,聞起來有明顯地瓜與肉桂香。雖然是艾爾,但口感乾脆得令人驚喜。之後肉桂味明顯,尾韻也清爽。
Beniaka 就是使用的當地產金時地瓜,酒色稍深,單純的蒸地瓜香氣,很難不令人想起地瓜稀飯。酒體重得多,但仍具單純口感,喝起來反而較無地瓜味,直到甘美悠長的尾韻出現。因添加地瓜為原料,故於日本歸類於發泡酒的酒稅標準。
"Ngahi" simply means sweet potato in the indigenous Atayal language, and "66" denotes Taiwan Sweet Red Potato No.66 variety selected for brewing. The beer appears rather light-coloured, and delivers a clear aroma of sweet potato and cinnamon. The palate is surprisingly (and pleasantly) straightforward for an ale. Strong cinnamon taste appears later, and the finish is brisk.
"Beniaka" is the variety of the sweet potato grown locally and used for brewing. The colour is comparably darker, and the simple steamed sweet potato scent reminds one of that from sweet potato congee. Though the body of the beer is much fuller, the candidness is still ever so present, and the palate gives no apparent hint of sweet potato until the long, marvelous finish. The beer is categorized under the Happoshu tax bracket because of a secondary ingredient, in this case the sweet potato, utilized.
