「「男子漢要靠自己起床。」爺爺嚴肅地告訴我。但他起床時故意製造了不少聲響，一下碰撞我房間的牆壁，一下反常地大聲跟奶奶講話，我都聽到了，趕緊跳下床準備。這天我是第一個走出屋外的，跟著獵犬們一起在黑暗中等爺爺。
「噢。你來了。」爺爺的語氣很驚訝。

🌏This Earth Day, AIT dedicated an Odourbark Cinnamon tree to the Fulbright program, in honor of the robust U.S.-Taiwan academic exchanges and people-to-people ties. AIT Director Brent Christensen, Executive Director Dr. Randall Nadeau from the Foundation for Scholarly Exchange (FSE), Douglas Hsu Director-General of North American Affairs Department of Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ms. Lee Yen-yi Ministry of Education Director-General of Department of International Cooperation and Exchange joined the event to recognize this important long-term partnership. The Fulbright vision of “a world with a little more knowledge and a little less conflict” will be growing at AIT.

小樹是五歲的小男孩，父母過世後，到山裡與切羅基族的祖父母一起生活。透過爺爺奶奶的教育，小樹學會了如何與大自然共處、珍惜資源、敬仰大地、存活之道⋯等，並且天真無邪的生活。
「我心靈的傷口已經癒合。風兒與山林、溪澗與鳥兒撫慰的歌聲洗淨了那道傷。」
「山中萬物不在意，也不理解肉身心靈是如何運作，就如同那些只會用肉身心靈思考的人們，也不理解林中的生命。」p265
而後來都市人發現了年幼的小樹，以教育為理由將他帶到了孤兒院，看似對孩子好的行為，事實上真的好嗎？與爺爺奶奶分離的小樹，只能透過天狼星傳遞思念。
「當你不知道自己正前往何方，那麼那個目的地肯定很遙遠。」p239
這本書真的非常好看，以小樹的視角，感受一個孩子成長的心路歷程，從受了傷到修復傷痕、從成長到成熟，不禁欣慰小樹的成長，以及祖父母的教育帶給小樹的改變，珍惜資源比資源豐富更重要、階級制度中仍保有堅忍高潔的精神，經典之作可一再回味。

2012年5月3日/Y：0歳6ヶ月/R：2歳11ヶ月 Rino and Yuuma and Rino's mom and mom's sister and grandma went to watch a cherry tree of famous Hirosaki in Japan in GW of this year.
It drizzled a little on that day, and the cherry blossoms have begun to be scattered.
However, it was a very happy day.
Rino did not seem to be too interested in a cherry tree.
She was interested in only a playground equipment and the food of the park,
Yuuma slept from beginning to end.
