I've been living in Mexico recently where I've learned to speak the Yucatec Maya language, the indigenous language of the Yucatan peninsula which has been spoken in this region for thousands of years. In this video I wander around the jungle villages of Tulum and surrounding areas and try to speak to people in Maya. I'm not perfect in Maya but fortunately I can also speak some Spanish, and so we speak in a mixture of Spanish and Maya.

In Mexico I spent some time learning the Yucatec Maya language, which is indigenous to the Yucatán Peninsula and has been spoken in this area for thousands of years by the Mayan people. Even though lots of people still speak it, the younger generation is forgetting it and it was really interesting to go around and try and speak what I could speak.
