Huge props to @myfavoritedj for speaking on this and running the Gofundme for the U.S. finalists. Every battle DJ, prospective battle DJ, or fan should watch this. I spoke about this just last year myself and I think it’s very important for DJs to be aware of, given how much sacrifice it takes to enter a major battle.
I give huge props to the battle organizers and organizations that put major battles on, I wouldn’t be here without them. But at the end of the day I care about the DJs and my peers getting a fair shake. We see local DJ battles scams all the time that exploit up and coming DJs by offering them chances to open for other DJs for free if they spend their time and energy to enter there competition. If a DJ competition hosts a battle with no compensation for the winners or finalists, whats the difference? It’s like the “pay to play” of the DJ world. Competitions are quick to advertise when they have a big prize, but get super silent when there’s nothing up top. At the very least, it should be completely transparent for everyone entering so they can decide if it’s worth there time.
Respect to all the DJs worldwide who have put in the blood, sweat and tears to enter battles in every organization this year. I know the grind, and how hard it is, better than anyone, and that’s why you don’t see me entering anymore.
