若要大規模部署Wi-Fi網路，目前在市面上只能選擇單一廠牌的解決方案，才能實現多個基地臺的串連，以及使用者在不同Wi-Fi網路的漫遊，近期開始有一群業者想要打破上述限制，那就是電信基礎架構專案（Telecom Infra Project，TIP）這個組織所要推動的OpenWiFi應用，或許會如同開放運算專案（Open Compute Project，OCP）在雲端服務產業大放異彩，解放由各廠商所壟斷的封閉網路應用架構。
而今年智邦集團旗下的鈺登科技（Edgecore）也推出相關的產品。過去該公司以發展超大規模資料中心網路交換器為重，延伸出IgniteNet的雲端管理Wi-Fi解決方案，而在8月發表兩款Wi-Fi 6基地臺的消息中，也讓外界得知，他們不只是要推動新一代Gbps等級Wi-Fi網路環境的普及，也透過新款基地臺、網路控制器、雲端管理平臺的支援與搭配，實現TIP OpenWiFi應用，促成更多產業突破。
