KINH NGHIỆM PHỎNG VẤN VỚI GIÁO SƯ & THẦY CÔ TRƯỜNG

🖍1. Trước khi phỏng vấn nên:
- Ôn tập kiến thức toán, machine learning, computer vision.
- Xem lại những gì đã viết ở CV và SoP, cố gắng nghĩ ra những câu mà giáo sư có thể hỏi và trả lời các câu hỏi đó.

🖍2. Tự tin khi phỏng vấn: Trong lúc phỏng vấn giáo sư sẽ tạo không khí vui vẻ và không bao giờ tạo áp lực cho các bạn. Bản thân tôi cũng từng được giáo sư động viên: “Có hơn 200 CV
gửi đến, tôi chỉ phỏng vấn 15 người. Do đó, bạn nên tự tin vào bản thân mình”.

🖍3. Bình tĩnh khi phỏng vấn: tôi xin kể 1 mẫu chuyện bản thân để các bạn dễ hình dung hơn.
VD: lúc phỏng vấn câu thứ 1 giáo sư hỏi: nhân 2 ma trận kích thước 10000x10000. Làm sao để tăng tốc độ tính toán? Tôi trả lời: multi-thread. Giáo sư lại nói có cách khác không và tôi không biết câu trả lời. Tôi không biết câu trả lời là vì các câu trước đó giáo sư hỏi về lập trình nên tôi tự mặc định tìm kiếm câu trả lời sử dụng kiến thức lập trình. Câu hỏi tiếp theo giáo sư hỏi: bạn có biết eigenvalue là gì không? Tới đây tôi đã biết hướng trả lời cho câu hỏi trước (hi vọng các bạn cũng biết) là dùng kiến thức toán, không phải lập trình và tôi xin giáo sư trả lời lại cho câu hỏi trước đó. Do đó, bình tĩnh rất quan trọng khi các bạn không trả lời được câu hỏi.
Ngoài ra, từ ví tụ trên, nếu có một câu hỏi về kiến thức chuyên môn bạn không trả lời được thì câu hỏi tiếp theo giáo sư thường sẽ gợi ý cho câu hỏi trước. Tuy nhiên, không phải lúc nào
cũng vậy. Có giáo sư khi chuyển chủ đề phỏng vấn (vd: từ code sang toán) thì sẽ thông báo cho sinh viên.

🖍4. Kiến thức: Đây là phần khá quan trọng mà các bạn cần phải chuẩn bị kỹ. Các giáo sư thường hỏi các kiến thức rất cơ bản. Dưới đây là các chủ đề mà các giáo sư thường hỏi:
- Đại số tuyến tính: rank, inverse, det...
- Giải tích: taylor ...
- Xác suất thống kê: bayes rule, ...
- Image processing: fourier transform ... (kinh nghiệm bản thân, các giáo sư tại EU đặc biệt
thích hỏi về fourier transform)
- Machine learning: các thuật toán thường dùng như svm, k-mean...
- Data structure và algorithm.
- Kiến thức cơ bản Python.

Lưu ý, vì tôi xin học bổng PhD về mảng machine learning computer vision nên các câu hỏi chỉ xoay quanh kiến thức cho mảng này. Ngoài ra, các bạn nên nắm kỹ kiến thức chứ không phải học thuộc định nghĩa. Một ví dụ từ kinh nghiệm bản thân: giáo sư hỏi fourier transform là gì? fourier transform biến tín hiệu từ miền thời gian sang miền tần số. Đây là câu trả lời chính xác nhưng rất chung chung và đến đây có 2 trường hợp: (1) giáo sư sẽ hỏi: nhưng tôi muốn biết chính xác là fourier transform làm cái gì? (2) giáo sư sẽ hỏi: nếu có 1 tín hiệu từ miền thời gian biến đổi pha nhưng biên độ giữ nguyên thì sang miền tần số sẽ ra sao?

Style hỏi của các giáo sư thường có 2 styles: một là hỏi thẳng vào kiến thức (vd: cho tôi biết rank của 1 ma trận là gì?), hoặc cho 1 bài tập nhỏ và hỏi các câu hỏi dựa trên bài tập đó (vd:
tung đồng xu 3 lần, xác suất của...).

🖍5. Đọc hiểu bài báo: giáo sư sẽ chỉ định paper để các bạn đọc và trình bày lại cho giáo sư.

🖍6. Coding test: về phần coding test có 2 dạng:
- Giáo sư ra đề và bạn code thẳng trên google Docs. Đề có thể là bất kỳ thứ gì: svm, k-mean,
hoặc pca,...
- Giáo sư chỉ định dataset (public hoặc private) và task (thường là recognition, segmentation,...). Nhiệm vụ của bạn là code theo task đó và đạt kết quả cao, sau đó báo cáo lại giáo sư.

🖍7. Thái độ: thái độ ở đây là thái độ của bạn đối với việc học PhD. Phần này quan trọng không kém kiến thức. Giáo sư muốn biết bạn có nghiêm túc với việc học PhD không? Hầu như tất cả
các giáo sư tôi đã phỏng vấn đều hỏi tại sao học PhD và đánh giá qua câu trả lời. Bạn nên chuẩn bị câu trả lời thích hợp cho mình. Như đã nói ở phần chuẩn bị hồ sơ. Việc chuẩn bị SoP là lúc thích hợp nhất để bạn suy nghĩ câu trả lời cho mình.

🖍8. Chuẩn bị câu hỏi cho giáo sư: khi kết thúc phần phỏng vấn của mình giáo sư sẽ hỏi bạn có câu hỏi nào cho giáo sư không. Nếu bạn chưa có câu hỏi hợp lý thì cứ nói không có. Nhưng bạn có thể ghi điểm bằng cách hỏi rõ hơn về hướng nghiên cứu của giáo sư hoặc giáo sư suy nghĩ thế nào về hướng nghiên cứu của bạn (tất nhiên hướng của bạn cũng phải gần với hướng của giáo sư). Rồi sau đó dẫn dắt câu chuyện để thể hiện thái độ nghiêm túc của bạn trong việc học PhD.

🖍9. Giáo sư phỏng vấn cùng với một sinh viên khác hiện đang làm PhD trong lab: sinh viên này thường chỉ nghe và trả lời các câu hỏi personal của sinh viên như: stipend, lab environment...

3 CÁCH LẤY VÍ DỤ TRONG IELTS WRITING TASK 2

🌞🌞Cách 1: Sử dụng “for example” hoặc “for instance”: ví dụ
Nếu mình sử dụng 2 cụm này, mình sẽ triển khai như sau.
▪️Ý chính (→ Ý triển khai) → For example, .../ For instance, ...

Mình có thể đặt for example/ for instance ở đầu câu, hoặc đặt nó sau chủ từ để câu của mình nhìn học thuật hơn.
Sau đây là một số ví dụ

🎗Ví dụ 1

Ý chính: Những người làm việc quá nhiều không dành thời gian cho các hoạt động tình nguyện cái mà mang lại nhiều lợi ích cho xã hội.

Để nêu được 1 ví dụ hay, Huyền thường sẽ phân tích ý chính như sau:

▪️Những người làm việc quá nhiều → cụ thể là ai? → chú tôi
▪️các hoạt động tình nguyện → hoạt động tên gì? → hoạt động bảo tồn thiên nhiên
▪️Từ đó Huyền có được ví dụ là: Chú tôi hiếm khi dành thời gian cho hoạt động bảo tồn thiên nhiên vì chú làm việc hơn 60 giờ 1 tuần.

Triển khai tiếng Anh:

In terms of community life, overworked people do not devote time to voluntary activity that brings benefits for their society. My uncle, for example, hardly has time for conservation work because he works more than sixty hours per week.

Các bạn có thể đặt cụm từ “for example” ra đầu câu cũng được, nhưng Huyền đặt vậy thì câu có vẻ học thuật hơn.

Các bạn có thể thay for example = for instance:

My uncle, for instance, hardly has time for conservation work because he works more than sixty hours per week.

🎗Một số ví dụ khác

▪️In recent years, with the development of technology, we can replace animal experimentations with sophisticated computer programs that could provide more accurate results. For instance, computer-based testing has been used to test the safety of new drugs or cancer treatments and has proved effective.
Trong những năm gần đây, với sự phát triển của công nghệ, chúng ta có thể thay thế các thí nghiệm trên động vật bằng các chương trình máy tính tinh vi có thể cung cấp kết quả chính xác hơn. Ví dụ, thử nghiệm dựa trên máy tính đã được sử dụng để kiểm tra sự an toàn của các loại thuốc mới hoặc phương pháp điều trị ung thư và đã chứng minh hiệu quả.

▪️I think that without the cooperation of both politicians and individuals, environmental issues will never be effectively tackled. Tôi nghĩ rằng nếu không có sự hợp tác của cả chính trị gia và cá nhân, các vấn đề môi trường sẽ không bao giờ được giải quyết một cách hiệu quả. Ví dụ, nếu nông dân tiếp tục đốt rừng vì mục đích riêng của họ, bất kể các quy định của chính phủ, vấn đề biến đổi khí hậu sẽ không bao giờ được giảm thiểu thành công.

🌞🌞Cách 2: Sử dụng “such as”: như là
Nếu sử dụng “such as” thì mình sẽ không tách câu như vậy, mà mình sẽ nêu trực tiếp ví dụ vào câu mà mình đang viết luôn nhé.

🎗Ví dụ: Children should be encouraged to play sports such as football or basketball instead of playing video games.
Trẻ em nên được khuyến khích chơi các môn thể thao như là bóng đá hay bóng rổ thay vì chơi games.

🎗Một số ví dụ khác

▪️In order for serious problems, such as global warming, prolonged droughts, violent storms or other extreme weather events, to be effectively addressed, it requires the efforts and cooperation of politicians and large environmental organisations.
Để các vấn đề nghiêm trọng, như nóng lên toàn cầu, hạn hán kéo dài, bão dữ dội hoặc các sự kiện thời tiết khắc nghiệt khác, được giải quyết một cách hiệu quả, nó đòi hỏi sự nỗ lực và hợp tác của các chính trị gia và các tổ chức môi trường lớn.

▪️These days, face-to-face communication is being replaced with online conversations using social media apps, such as Facebook, WhatsApp or Tumblr.
Ngày nay, việc giao tiếp trực tiếp đang được thay thế bằng các cuộc trò chuyện trực tuyến bằng các ứng dụng mạng xã hội, chẳng hạn như Facebook, WhatsApp hoặc Tumblr.

🌞🌞Cách 3: Sử dụng “Take…as an example” hay “…to be a good case in point”: Lấy…là 1 ví dụ/ …là 1 ví dụ điển hình
Nếu sử dụng 2 cụm này thì mình sẽ cần viết thêm 1 câu triển khai ví dụ đó.

🎗Ví dụ 1
Các bạn đọc ví dụ sau để hiểu nhé:

▪️Ý chính: Nhà mới nên xây theo phong cách của nhà cổ trong khu vực vì nó giúp giữ gìn truyền thống và văn hóa, giúp tăng du lịch.
▪️Câu ví dụ: Lấy Hội An là 1 ví dụ// Hội An là 1 ví dụ điển hình.
1 → 2 câu triển khai ví dụ → Để làm được câu này mình phải phân tích ý chính:
◊ Nhà mới nên xây theo phong cách của nhà cổ trong khu vực → Khu vực nào? → Hội An

◊ giúp tăng du lịch → tăng bao nhiêu?/ tăng như thế nào? → mỗi năm hàng triệu du khách trong và ngoài nước tới Hội An tham quan.

Đoạn văn tiếng Anh:

▪️Ý chính: On the one hand, the primary reason why some people think that modern constructions should follow the style of the old ones in local areas is that this helps preserve traditional and cultural values, which could boost tourism in these areas.
▪️Câu ví dụ: Take Hoi An as an example// Hoi An is a good case in point.
▪️Câu triển khai ví dụ: Local people in this city are encouraged to preserve their old houses or construct new houses in traditional architectural styles. As a result, Hoi An has become a popular tourist destination that attracts millions of tourists on an annual basis

🎗Ví dụ 2.

▪️Ý chính: On the one hand, learning literature from local resources gives children the opportunity to learn more about their own traditional and historical heritage.
▪️Ví dụ: Take Su thich banh chung banh day as an example.
▪️Triển khai ví dụ: This fairy tale helps kids to know more about the main purpose of Tet holiday and how people celebrated Tet in the past.

Di sebuah masjid di perkampungan Mesir, suatu petang. Seorang ustaz sedang mengajarkan murid-muridnya membaca Al-Qur’an. Mereka duduk melingkar & berkelompok. Tiba-tiba, masuk seorang anak kecil yang ingin menyertai di lingkaran mereka. Usianya kira-kira 9 tahun.

Sebelum menempatkannya di satu kelompok, ustaz itu ingin tahu kemampuannya. Dengan senyumnya yang lembut, dia bertanya kepada anak yang baru masuk tadi, ” ada ayat yang kamu hafal dalam Al-Qur’an?”

“Ya,” jawab anak ...
Continue ReadingAt a mosque in the Egyptian Village, one evening. A Ustaz is teaching his students to read the Qur ' an. They sit circle & group. Suddenly, entering a little child who wants to join in their circle. Her age is about 9 years old.

Before placing it in one group, the ustaz wanted to know what he was capable of. With his gentle smile, he asked the new child, " there is a verse that you memorize in the Qur ' an?"

" yes," answer the child is short.

" if so, try to read one of the verses from juz ' Amma? ' painting ustaz
The child is the some sentences, Fluent & true tajwidnya. Feeling the child has advantages, the teacher asks again," do you memorize the Surah Tabaraka?" (Al-Mulk)

Yes," answer again, & read it soon. Good & smooth. The Ustaz was also impressed with the ability of the little child, even though he was younger than his disciples.

He also tried to ask further, " you memorize an an-Nahl letter?"

It turns out that the child is very smooth, so that the admiration is increasing. Then the ustaz tried to test it with longer Surah-Surah.

" did you take the letter of al-Baqarah?"

The little boy is back in his mind and reading it without any mistake. And the ustaz is getting more excited about the last question, " my son, do you memorize the Qur ' an?"

" yes," the answer is honestly.

Listening to the answer, for a moment the ustaz said,
"Subhanallah of masyaallah, tabarakkallah"

After that day ahead of Maghrib, before the ustaz ended the study class, specifically he told his new students," tomorrow, if you come to this mosque, please invite your parents too. Ustaz wants to get to know him ".

Tomorrow is the day, the little boy comes back to the mosque. This time he was with his father, like a ustaz's message to him. Looking at the father of the child, the ustaz is getting shocked because his style is not at all like a pious, honorary & clever person.

But I wonder I will answer, actually behind this little child there is a mother who is as strong as a thousand men. At Home, I still have 3 more children that all memorize the Qur ' an. My little girl is 4 years old, and now she's memorizing amma ".

" how can the mother do that?" ask the teacher without hiding the admiration."

Their Mother, when the children are already good at talking, the mother guides our children to memorize the Qur ' an and always motivate them to do that. Never stop and never get bored. He always says to them,

" Who memorize first, he is the one who determines this dinner,

"who is the fastest to repeat the accentuate, he is the one who has the right to choose where we can walk - post later"
That's what his mother always do, until the spirit of competing and racing between them to multiply and repeat the recitation of their Qur ' an," clearly the father praises his wife.

An ordinary family that can give birth to extraordinary children. Just an ordinary mother. Each of us and all parents must aspire to their children to be a religious, intelligent and proud generation. But of course it's not easy.

Let alone form the children love & love the Qur ' an. Need a struggle, need strength. Must be diligent & patient against fatigue and hardship without knowing the limits. So it's normal if the father says," behind this child there is a mother who is the same as a thousand men."

Yes, the woman who has given birth to the child is so strong & mighty. Because making a good start for children's life, is not easy. Only people who have will & motivation can do it. And of course his first capital is self-Kesolehan. Nothing else.

The Mother of this smart child, she is the symbol of a solehah woman who passed her his into her household life. He is the example of the woman who once ordained rasulullah saw to men for them to make the companion of life among so many women.

By menangggalkan the priority of his wealth, Beauty & his offspring, as the word of Rasulullah saw, " women are married for 4 things: because of his wealth, his offspring. Beauty, & his religion. So choose a religious woman, you will be lucky." (hr. Bukhari & Muslim).

The girl we know in the story above, she actually didn't start her hard work when her kids just learned to talk. No. But far before that, the energy was shed to bonding them with the reading of the Qur ' an while they were still fetus.

In a heavy state of pregnancy, this mother almost every day always takes the time to read the Qur ' an, listening to her fetus that she has been womb, lying down, sitting / leaning. The struggle is heavy but it is the one who then makes it easy for the tongue of his children to string word for the Qur ' an verses, when they actually start learning to speak.

Hopefully from the story above we can take lesson & make it a role model.

Today me and my friend Jillian (@JJsays - 雪莲说) went out to get dim sum in Chinatown and she totally shocked the entire restaurant (literally all the waitstaff) with her perfect Mandarin! We got all the classic Guangdong / Hong Kong style dim sum style treats, like shrimp dumplings (har gow), rice noodles, pork buns (cha siu bao), and Jillian's favorite -- chicken feet!!! This is part 2 of our Chinatown series where went around Chinatown and talked with different people in Mandarin, Cantonese, and Fuzhounese. Very funny prank and social experiment!
