吃年夜飯還是血拼?美國人越來越難抉擇
今天是美國的感恩節隔天「黑色星期五」(Black Friday),也是大折扣的日子。這幾年零售業為了搶商機,紛紛提早到晚餐時間就開店,讓不少美國人得在血拼和家人晚餐間抉擇。
最早以前是星期五早上開始折扣,幾年前是週四感恩節晚餐後晚上十點開, 到今年已經感恩節前幾天的週一就開始特價,不僅感恩節全天不休息,晚上五六點就開始特價,火雞都還沒吃搶購就開始!
因為越來越早開,零售銷售業績也因此增加。電商也是,以前是「網路星期一」(Cyber Monday)電商要下週一才開始賣,現在電商也都提早開跑,因此甚至感恩節當天業績比起去年也成長18%,再創新高。
究竟感恩節科技公司員工做什麼?如果不是零售業,就像是過年一樣,整週滿是過節氣氛,週一二就不少人請假,到週三就跟台灣的小年夜一樣,大家都提早下班。
零售業的話,十月份大家趕著最後一刻把更新的網站App推出,感恩節當天通常沒什麼事,不過會有人留守,以防萬一。我三年前在針對百貨(Target)就帶團隊留守,雖然沒什麼事做(因為運氣不錯app沒有壞掉),不過看每分鐘業績進帳還是挺刺激,辦公室也會預留一些小點心。
不過在美國沒有家人的阿雅覺得,能和家人吃年夜飯是無價,要是我家人在這我才不留守,也不血拼,一定回家吃飯!

So what technology company employees do at Thanksgiving? For those who are not in retailer, many people take the whole weeks off. On Wed, most people leave early. Holiday feeling and happiness is full of office.
For retailers, employees are super busy in Sept/Oct to finish all website and app updates. At Thanksgiving night, is usually quite, but we usually schedule people to stay in office “just in case.” While we don’t have much to do at Thanksgiving night, take my Target experience, it was still exciting to see revenue coming every minute!
Well, in my POV, If I have families in the U.S., I will definitely not replace my family dinner with working nor shopping! Family time is priceless!
