One of our portfolios, Deep Sentinel, recently announced it had secured a strategic investment from Nationwide that brings its total Series A funding to US$ 24M.
Deep Sentinel is a physical security startup that leverages cameras and hybrid AI to prevent break-ins. Hybrid AI utilizes both AI and human efforts to produce results and in the case of Deep Sentinel, the AI in the camera can detect when something fishy is going on outside your home which will then alert a real security person who will be able to (a) watch the surveillance, (b) notify the intruders they are being watched, and/or (c) call the police if it escalates.
Alongside the announcement of the funding, Deep Sentinel also launched a new line specifically for non-Residential areas called Deep Sentinel for Business, designed to protect small to medium-sized businesses who need security during off-hours. Deep Sentinel is now offering up to 6-8 cameras per hub, and multiple hubs per home powered by solar energy.
We had the honor of hosting the founder, Dave Selinger, at a fireside chat at AppWorks a few years ago, and he shared his vision for the company as well as his ambitions to see it grow. He imparted some wisdom to the AppWorks community: to know yourself and create your own advantages, which is what he did when he started Deep Sentinel. Instead of trying to copy others, he focused on what he was good at and innovated in the AI space by combining human + AI services in order to solve a problem he was already facing.
