Major throwback to #2019, I grow up with these boys since 2015 and we’d dance to Sōran Bushi (ソーラン節) every year it’s like a Tradition of our Schools Japanese Club, I missed this so much. This was one of the highlights during my senior year in high school, we choreographed the intro together, we were not the best but this was really fun 🫂❤️ to all of you guys who don’t know what is “Soran Bushi ソランブシ”
「Sōran Bushi (ソーラン節)」
is one of the most famous traditional songs and dance (min'yō) in Japan. It is a sea shanty that is said to have been first sung by the fishermen of Hokkaido.
「Sōran Bushi」The commonly known version of the song and dance is called Nanchū Sōran (南中ソーラン) and was created in 1991 at the Wakkanai Minami Junior High School.
The choreography was developed by the Butoh dancer Jushō Kasuga, which includes acting ocean waves, fishermen dragging nets, pulling ropes and lifting luggage over their shoulders. 🌊🇯🇵

Alright! Back from my self imposed break from social media! Had an awesome time hanging out with the kids at @youthbeatmedia today! Youth Beat is an awesome program, founded by my high school art teacherJeff Key, that teaches media skills which include acting, directing, cinematography, editing, and writing to kids in Oakland that would not normally have access to this medium at their own school. I got to watch two teams make their respective films and give them a pointer or two. I am proud to be partnering up with them and helping in their future endeavors. Honestly after 25 years of working non stop, I did not miss not working that much during Covid but watching these kids work today made me miss the film set. I gotta start looking for a job! Jim Johnson
Professor of Voice and Accents
Jim Johnson is a professor of voice and accents at the University of Houston School of Theatre & Dance, where he received the Provost’s 2007 University Teaching Excellence Award and serves as the director of undergraduate programs for the School. Jim served as the director of the School of Theatre & Dance from 2013 – 2016. He works professionally as an actor and as a voice and dialect coach, and is a founder of AccentHelp, which offers over 40 sets of materials for different accents and dialects. Jim teaches and performs annually with the summer training institute of the Prague Shakespeare Company. He is an associate teacher of Fitzmaurice Voicework, an associate editor for the International Dialects of English Archive and a member of the Voice and Speech Trainers Association. He received his M.F.A. in acting from the University of Nebraska — Lincoln. He formerly served on the faculty of The Theatre School of DePaul University and taught at the Audition Studio in Chicago, Illinois. He is currently represented by Pastorini-Bosby Talent Agency and is a member of Actors’ Equity.
