If you are currently interviewing or looking to add talent to your team, try looking past expertise and take these two qualities into account - people who show initiative and those that have been through adversity, why:
1/ Initiative is contagious.
2/ People with initiative are willing to learn new things, they’ll take on new responsibilities and master their role, all the while spreading their enthusiasm and willingness within their team. Especially in the early-stage startup environment, teams need willingness and hustle to flourish. Expertise is much harder to diffuse.
3 / To identify their initiative, ask candidates about what they were interested in and to what degree did they pursue these interests? This could be anything from painting to knitting, the more obsessed someone is with something, the more they are motivated to learn.
4/ Overcoming adversity brings maturity.
5/ People who have overcome adversity have courage, can stomach ambiguity, and have a track record of beating the odds. These are all critical qualities for early-stage founding team members. These qualities are much more important than how long they held X position for Y period of time at Z company.
6/ What are the hardest problems they had to overcome? How did they prevail and how did these events define them as a person? These questions not only shed light on their origin story but also showcases their value and personality on a much more tangible and human level.
7/ At the end of the day, companies are about people and people are more than just their degrees and resumes. To improve the qualities of your future hires, hire people who take initiative and have overcome adversity.

This marks as my 5th out of my 6 part series on becoming a better founder. I have learnt so much writing out these ideas and thoughts that's been in my head for months! I hope they have brought some value to you. Tune back to my last piece on Wednesday the 27th.
Cheers,
Jack

Check out these lovely angels and beautiful flowers by @lbehk when you explore North Point. It is right next to the North Point Ferry Pier, super easy to spot them out 🥰
There were 19 pairs of Knit dolls along Instagram Pier in Sai Wan since 2019 and sadly they were all stolen in July 2020.
Where is it? Next to the North Point Pier (Ferry to Kowloon city and Hung Hom) 北角渡輪碼頭 (往九龍城/紅磡)
More about about our #explorehongkong_NorthPoint trip:
We went to Chun Yeung Street Market 春秧街街市, Statue Theatre Building 皇都戲院大廈, North Point Pier Market and this is our last stop. You might want to check out the Purple Flower Garden @harbournorth too (see last photo), which is a 2-minute walk from where the knit dolls are located. Not as Instagrammable as I thought😅 but people took really instagrammable photos there... I should improve my photo-taking and editing skills 😂Many people come in purple outfit and purple masks for photos. You need to register to be a member first and you need 100 member points to go in for photos. Make sure you book in advance!

結果的にカワイすぎました。
色違いで白でも作ってみたいです。
Hello, at first I was thinking about wrapping the Hemp Twine in white,
but I used it black. As a result, it was too cute.
I would like to make white with different colors.

Thank you for watching my videoes and for all your warm comments.
I think that my knitting videos showcase many parts of my own style,
which can be difficult to understand, but I will try to make the explanation as easy as possible.
I love knitting, but I can't read knitting diagrams and of course, I can't draw them either.
Even so, I could still enjoy knitting incredibly.
I hope many people will enjoy knitting in the same way through my videoes.
I've been to a simple knitting class, but I usually go with my own flow.
I love handmade crafts, so in the past, I've been involved in Japanese-style dressmaking,
and acquired the qualification of a nationally-skilled craftsman and also have the qualification of a nailist as a hobby.
There seems to be no relation between Japanese-style dressing, nails, and knitting,
But I have gained different insights from those experiences, and I think that it leads to free knitting.
I will continue to enjoy knitting, and I hope for those who are watching would also make something incredible on their own someday.

Yes, this is a cover! It may seem a little out of the blue for a lot of ya'll but fun fact - my channel actually started out with covers! They've since been set to private so you'll have no luck finding them, but music has always been such a big part of my life. Making music and singing throughout my upper sec days was pretty much the most effective (and at times, the only) way to cope with my anxiety, because it forces me to breathe.
I knowwwww, can't tell right? It goes to show how much more we need to be open and comfortable with mental health and self-care!
I'll pick this up in another video, but I'm at the point in my life where I have accepted that, like everyone else, my brain is wired a certain way, and have grown comfortable enough in my own skin to be able to acknowledge, address and manage it. It took a while, but I'm very proud to say that I'm doing the best I ever have, and I've never felt this calm, confident and happy for so long in my entire life.
I've always, always wanted to address "touchy" issues like mental health (amongst others), but the stigma and the pity and whatever else comes along with revealing our vulnerabilities has always made me think twice. Also, ngl, I've been busy and prioritising other (i.e. the more fun) videos. But it's 2018 and I'm way past my teenage insecurities. I have many important things I want to share and discuss with you guys, so that's exactly what I'm going to do! I don't know how often I will be able to make these videos considering I usually can only afford to make one per week, but do you remember the think tank videos we've discussed about before (I think it was one of the GRWMs)? I've had topics and talking points all planned out over 2017, but never actually got around to them. It's happening this year. (Let me know if you guys have anything on your minds you'd like to talk about in the comments below btw!)
Anyway, what prompted my decision was this - since my return, I've been feeling very suffocated by my possessions. Moving back with all of my things from New York into my already overflowing room (because I also moved back from staying on campus before I left) was just too much. I started feeling my anxiety creep back every time I look at my piles of stuff, so I've taken the time to clean, pack, declutter and reinvent my entire room for a fresh start. It. Felt. AWESOME. My room has always been my sanctuary + bubble + fun workspace and I'm so happy that it's not only restored, but improved and streamlined into an organised conglomerate of my favourite things. It's also led to the revival of my past hobbies, like knitting, music, painting etc. I feel so energised and inspired now! This incited an insatiable itch to pick everything back up and just do them for the heck of it. I don't care so much if they're productive, or "useful" or not, because time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time.
Till next time, keep that heart full ya'll xoxoxoxoxoxoxoluvuforeva
