My kids love any opportunity they get to come up close with animals and nature. During our stay in Bintan last week, we booked a last minute excursion to Safari Lagoi and were the only family to do so - which means we had our personal chauffeur. Woohoo!
The place is quite new, having opened only three years ago. Since our 3.5-hour trip was inclusive of a dinner at a kelong seafood restaurant, the hubby and I thought: The safari must be very small lar, can tour finish in a short time.
It turned out that we spent hours there and were almost late in getting our dinner before catching the ferry back home, but it was all worthwhile. The kids got to shake hands with chimpanzees, watch a snake devour a dead mouse, feed grass to deer, cuddle with cute rabbits, admire the elephants (there were seven!), be intimated by sun bears who stood up on their feet and growled at onlookers, carry a giant turtle, plucked jambu and feed them to cockatoos, come up close with crocodiles, pythons, cassowaries and even a komodo dragon. We heard from our guide that there will even be a tiger and camel here in the future.
Were we impressed? Definitely. It was more than what we had bargained for and I was so glad we visited this place together just before the holiday ended. The 5min boat ride across the mangrove swamp to the seafood restaurant, which served us our yummy dinner promptly, was the icing on the cake and a perfect way to end off a perfect day.
Oh, and what did we do in the morning? It was sports day for us in Club Med. The girls did their trapeze and we then decided to head to the sports centre ourselves where we played archery, squash, badminton, basketball and football for the whole morning and afternoon. Yeah, energy seldom runs low here. Haha. But, I was amazed we survived the long day and made it through the late night bumpy ferry ride.
To more holidays ahead of us where we create loving memories to last a lifetime. It doesn't matter so much where we go, but who we are with.

Bintan getaway, here we come!
While we have been sticking to travelling to nearby countries only for the past years, every short trip is still considered a luxury for us. Yup, travelling as a family of five is really expensive and the older they grow, the more expensive it gets. I hope the kids learn to cherish these family holidays and never take them for granted.
This was the only family picture we took when we visited the Canopi and Chill Cove last Christmas. Yup, just one! I had reminded myself to take less pictures and videos but it was really hard to control when I saw the kids experiencing their many firsts and trying out new sports or activities for the first time. Such precious milestones, I don't trust my brain - or theirs - to remember these moments forever. Such a dilemma, right? Wanna enjoy and relax yet don't wanna have regrets. Aiya. You feel the same too?
We shall see what happens this time round. At least, I'm gonna make sure we eat more, drink more, have more ice cream, dance more and party more! I love all-inclusive holidays! Yup, Clud Med Bintan, see you shortly!
