A cup of blueberries a day keeps the blues away. Oregon and Washington Blueberries are back in season! They are the leading producers of blueberries in the U.S. and the nutritional benefits are boundless!
We created Blueberry Sago with Fresh Basil and Sweet Cream using Oregon and Washington Blueberries. Grab a boost of blue with this small-but-mighty superfood!
Ingredients: (serves 3)
450g Oregon or Washington Frozen Blueberries
50g Sugar
237ml Water
0.5g Ground Cinnamon
15ml Lemon Juice
60ml Evaporated Milk
35g Pearl Sago (uncooked)
Fresh Basil
Sweet Cream
Steps:
1. In a large saucepan, bring frozen blueberries, water, sugar, ground cinnamon, and lemon juice to a boil over medium heat. Boil for a few minutes, stirring continuously, and remove from heat.
2. In a blender, combine the slightly cooled blueberry mixture and evaporated milk. Blend until smooth. Chill the blended mixture until ready to serve.
3. To make the sago, bring a pot of water to boil and add in the sago. Bring to a boil and then simmer for about 15mins, until sago is transparent. Drain and rinse under cold water. Let it soak in a bowl of cold water until ready to use.
4. Portion out the chilled blueberry soup and top with sago, sweet cream and fresh basil. Serve and enjoy!
----------
They are widely available under various brands from retailers such as RedMart and FairPrice. Simply look for the words ‘Oregon’ or ‘Washington’ proudly emblazoned on punnets, or refer to the source at the back of a pack of frozen or dried blueberries, to be assured of premium quality.

It's back to school for this girl today after the long break, yippee!
She walked back home in the hot afternoon with her uniform and face mask soaked in sweat but the moment she stepped into the house, you could see the joy that was written on her face.
"I had a good day and was happy to see my friends again!" were the words she said to me. Then, she stole a glance at me and added "But I also like staying home with you too, Mama." Yup, that is my girl, the one who thinks of my feelings, who saves her food for me, who writes sweet notes and says she wants to grow up to be like me. (You'll definitely be better than me in many ways, my dear).
It might be challenging handling a tween but I also love the rewards that it brings - like how we can have deeper conversations, build stronger connections and behave like the best of friends. Seeing how she now carries my bag, drinks my iced blended and reads my novel, I am hoping that in the days ahead, we can forge even closer ties, be able to share secrets and bare our souls to each other.
We had a one-on-one date because I had to bring her to KKH for a liquid nitrogen procedure. The waiting time was almost two hours but it gave us plenty of time to be alone together and I appreciated it - even though she evidently preferred to read in those quiet moments so we were both engrossed in our books. Yup, this lil bookworm is the one who is rekindling my passion for reading and reminds me there is just so much more I can learn.
Oh, and she totally loves our new Hawthorn Pink Kåmpis backpack from @gastonluga and likes how she can bring some of her favourite things out. The padded shoulder straps can be adjusted to suit her height and feels comfy for her. In fact, she was the one who chose this sweet, girly colour and I think it suits her pretty well. Soon enough, we will be sharing shoes and clothes too but that is just another good thing about having a daughter, right?
Hope everyone had a good day too and even though the circuit breaker is coming to an end, let's continue to stay safe, stay vigilant and stay positive!
