Where is Jesus Now?

“Father, I desire that they also whom you have given me be with me where I am, that they may see my glory, which you have given me, for you loved me before the foundation of the world.” (John‬ ‭17:24‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

The day is coming whereby Jesus’ prayer request in the verse above will be fulfilled.

We, the church (bride of the Lamb) will be received by our heavenly bridegroom into His Father’s house.

How amazing it will be to live where Jesus is, to see His glory in person.

Did you know that even the apostles who have since fallen asleep in death are not yet exactly where Jesus is?

“In my Father’s house are many homes. If it weren’t so, I would have told you. I am going to prepare a place for you. If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and will receive you to myself; that where I am, you may be there also.” (‭‭John‬ ‭14:2-3‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Jesus resides with Abba God in the sanctuary that is on the Mount Zion in the Heavenly Jerusalem. That is the location of God’s throne.

The Jerusalem on earth is actually a miniature mirror image of the Jerusalem above. Even the layout is the same—God made sure this was so.

None of the saints are there in the sanctuary yet. Those who are dead in Christ are in a part of Heaven called Paradise which is the garden of God.

“I know a man in Christ, fourteen years ago (whether in the body, I don’t know, or whether out of the body, I don’t know; God knows), such a one caught up into the third heaven. I know such a man (whether in the body, or outside of the body, I don’t know; God knows), how he was caught up into Paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.” (‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭12:2-4‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

In the original Greek, the word is Paradeison which means “a pleasure garden”. In Hebrew, the name is translated as “Gan Eden”, which is literally the Garden of Eden. Eden also means “pleasure”. Both the Greek and Hebrew agree that it is the Garden of Eden.

So that is where the Garden of Eden and the tree of life went! It was translated up to Heaven, protecting the tree of life from the world-destroying flood, and is now used as a waiting area for the saints.

“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the assemblies. To him who overcomes I will give to eat from the tree of life, which is in the Paradise of my God.” (Revelation‬ ‭2:7‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

We see that this is true. The Holy Spirit testifies that the tree of life is now in the Paradise (Garden of Eden) in Heaven. The cherubim with fiery swords who guard the entrance to the garden do not stop the saints there from accessing the tree of life!

The dead in Christ are still waiting for the Rapture so that they can receive their glorified bodies and finally be where Jesus is.

If what I’m saying is not true, then Jesus would not have said to the apostles, “I will come again, and will receive you to myself; that where I am, you may be there also.”

We know that the apostles who heard these words spoken by Jesus have already fallen asleep in death.

This promise will be fulfilled at the Rapture. The Lord will come back, and in the air, He will receive us to Himself. The apostles and all the saints will receive glorified bodies, and we will finally be with Jesus!

These days, I find myself reading and re-reading the four gospels a lot because I love to read Jesus’ words and read about Him in action. Such a perfect, wonderful God-Man, and He is our Lord.

Live by the “Present Truth”

“Therefore I will not be negligent to remind you of these things, though you know them, and are established in the present truth...For we did not follow cunningly devised fables, when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. For he received from God the Father honor and glory, when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” We heard this voice come out of heaven when we were with him on the holy mountain.” (2 Peter‬ ‭1:12, 16-18‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

The apostle Peter wrote to the church, saying that they were “established in the present truth”.

The existence of a present truth necessitates that there was a former truth.

I believe that he was referring to the change in covenants, from the Old Covenant of the Law (former truth) to the New Covenant of Grace (present truth).

He was probably addressing those who disbelieved that the Law has been replaced by Grace, and who wanted to continue keeping the Ten Commandments.

The New Covenant of Grace is all about God’s Son, our Lord Jesus Christ.

Peter then recounted an incident that happened to him many years ago, when he saw Jesus transfigured on the mountain.

“After six days, Jesus took with him Peter, James, and John his brother, and brought them up into a high mountain by themselves. He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his garments became as white as the light. Behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them talking with him. Peter answered, and said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you want, let’s make three tents here: one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them. Behold, a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Listen to him.” When the disciples heard it, they fell on their faces, and were very afraid. Jesus came and touched them and said, “Get up, and don’t be afraid.” Lifting up their eyes, they saw no one, except Jesus alone. As they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, saying, “Don’t tell anyone what you saw, until the Son of Man has risen from the dead.”” (Matthew‬ ‭17:1-9‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

The transfiguration was firmly etched in Peter’s mind. He saw Jesus’ majesty—the glory He had before His incarnation.

But right after seeing that, he was starstruck when he saw Moses and Elijah who appeared and spoke with Jesus.

Moses is the mediator of the Old Covenant of the Law, while Elijah is one of the most highly esteemed Old Testament prophets.

He stumbled over these two great men of God, and put Jesus on the same level as them by asking if he should pitch three tents for them to stay in.

God the Father was displeased by this, and He overshadowed Jesus, Moses and Elijah with a bright cloud, and told Peter, James, and John to listen to Jesus only.

Moses and Elijah disappeared, and the apostles only saw Jesus alone.

This is the way God the Father intended—for His Son to receive all the glory, honor, and majesty.

Under the New Covenant of Grace, the “present truth” is that we listen to Jesus alone.

It is not about keeping the Ten Commandments or observing the ominous warnings of the prophets anymore. Don’t be deceived by “cunningly devised fables” invented by the minds of men who seek to use the Law to enforce behavior modification on ignorant believers.

The entire Bible is about Jesus and the revelation of His story.

“Beginning from Moses and from all the prophets, he explained to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.” (Luke‬ ‭24:27‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Notice how Jesus expounded the Scriptures to Cleopas and the other disciples on the road to Emmaus, by explaining to them the things concerning Himself. Moses refers to the first five books of the Old Testament which were written by Moses, and the prophets are represented by Elijah.

Both Moses and Elijah are pointing to Jesus Christ who would be born as a Man to redeem mankind from their sins by dying on the cross, and eventually, Jesus will return to reign on David’s throne as the eternal King of Israel!

Did you ever wonder why Jesus only brought Peter, James and John to the mountain? I believe they were chosen because of their names.

Peter means “stone”, representing the Law which was engraved on stone tablets. James means “to supplant” (to be replaced). John means “grace of God”.

Putting their names together, we derive this meaning: the Law has been replaced by Grace.

The Law is the former truth, while Grace is the present truth which we are to be established in. We need to be constantly reminded of this truth so that we can keep our eyes on Jesus. Like Abba God said from the bright cloud, “Listen to Him.”

“For the law was given through Moses. Grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ.” (John‬ ‭1:17‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

No matter what challenges you are facing today, choose to keep your eyes on Jesus, and let His Spirit lead you. Jesus is the full realization of grace and truth. He is God’s righteousness. We must stop mixing the covenants and live by Grace alone!

Almost exactly 3 years ago, my life was seemingly perfect until a major spanner threw me for a loop. I was left feeling completely abandoned with no answers and no understanding of what had transpired. In my distraught despair, my friend Frantz offered me to spend 3 weeks in Paris to help me escape. I couldn’t face anyone or want to deal with questions I couldn’t answer. When I got to Paris, Frantz got all the challenging parts of who I was, broken, resentful and stubborn. He’d call me to leave the apartment and not dwell in my misery, he planned the best dinners with the best view, we went to La Plagne for his annual ski trip and even Berlin for a quick New Years celebration —all in the name of being there for a friend. I finally took walks outside of his apartment, spent more of my days hanging out instead of resigning to my room and started to stock up on my fav French snacks! I was extremely lucky to say the least.

But I know not many have the luxury of dealing with mental or emotional problems through an escape. Sometimes the pain is much to real and “snapping out of it” is not an option. I saw therapists this year in the midst of dealing with my own pain and it has not been easy. This time I decided to walk through the fire instead of beating around the bush, I’m lucky I have good friends, I’m lucky to have my @supparetreat community where no one fights their battles feeling alone and I’m lucky I’m no longer afraid of my feelings.

Don’t wait too long until you make yourself a priority, it may seem easier to ignore how you feel but it’ll be more difficult to maintain the walls that surround you which block any potential of light to come through. You can’t pour from an empty cup.

This is my mental health journey and I urge you to speak to a professional, find a friend to hold space and not judge your feelings and more importantly work for your own happiness.

First order of business, I wanted to go see Chiang Kai-shek’s Memorial. Walking past the National Theatre, there were people practicing Tai Chi in the morning. What an unforgettable sight that was – to be immersed in such tradition – to finally see the things I always see in the movies in real life. To finally stand before Chiang Kai-shek’s statue himself and in front of the guards themselves made me feel really surreal. I don’t normally feel that way about many places, but I seldom have a connection such as this one.

You see, in university, I studied contemporary China a lot. I focused and paid attention to WWII and the results. Chiang Kai-shek was definitely a prominent figure in my studies. And being there just brought back so many memories of university and how far and long it’s been. I can’t believe it’s been almost four years since I graduated. I felt extremely old standing there.

Next up, I went over to the Sun Yat-sen Memorial as well. It looked a little bit older and less grand compared to the space of the Chiang Kai-shek’s memorial grounds, but this one featured the changing of the guards. This kind of brought me back to my Washington DC trip in middle school when I witnessed the changing of the guards at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. It’s funny how in life, we have moments and memories that remain with us for a long time. Even though those feelings have faded, the memories still hold value from within. Moments on the road and moments traveling have made my life much deeper and refined. Staring at Sun Yat-sen’s statue gave me goosebumps. I was in Taiwan. Zomg.

The weather in Taipei was actually pretty comfortable during this time of the year. Sure, the sun was bright, but the heat was tolerable- especially in the evening. I wasn’t really sure what to eat that afternoon because I was still pretty sick from a case of food poisoning the days prior, I just opted to eat some Subway to be safe- simply because it was there and I was starving. To think about it, food in Taipei wasn’t easy to find as I thought. There were certain areas where you could get food and it wasn’t available in the streets in the afternoon or early in the morning. I had a hard time locating random restaurants near these sights. Even if there was a restaurant, a lot of the menus didn’t have a lick of English or pictures.

Another thing that many people do in Taipei is to visit the Maokong area via the Maokong Gondola or Maokong Cable Cars. The lines were line. I had to stand in the sun for quite a bit until the line progressed. People have a chance to either use a basic cabin or a crystal bottom one where the bottom of the cabin is made out of another sheet of glass so you can look down. That was pretty scary. The ride was beautiful, but I’ve been in so many cable cars that they don’t really impress me anymore. When I reached the top, there wasn’t much to do. There was some street food, including calabash candy, which was another thing I saw on TV in real life. That was pretty awesome, but gave me severe tooth pains because of how sweet it was. Trust me, I’ve never bitten into anything so sweet and sour like calabash tomatoes. Most people were walking towards a temple or something. I didn’t feel like visiting a crowded temple, so I opted to find some food. I stumbled upon a random restaurant. Pointed at some pictures. Nobody spoke English. And ate some really weird cold chicken leg thing. My waitress suddenly started speaking Vietnamese to another person, and I almost fell over. I started laughing insanely loud because we had so much trouble communicating my order. She was speaking Chinese and I was speaking Engrish. In the end, we spoke Vietnamese to each other and laughed at our situation. She married a Taiwanese man over 18 years ago and has been living in Taiwan and working there at her mother-in-law’s restaurant for that many years.
