DC漫畫的「小丑」英文名為 Joker，不是史蒂芬金 (Stephen King) 在《牠》(It) 系列的舞蹈小丑，Dancing Clown。小丑的首次出場在 1940 年的 4 月 25 日 DC漫畫《蝙蝠俠》(Batman)，是史上第首位漫畫中的超級反派，也是蝙蝠俠的宿敵。除了漫畫、電視節目與動玩，電影也有多次小丑的出場，除了在《蝙蝠俠》系列之外，也在《自殺突擊隊》(Suicide Squade) 和《猛禽小隊》(Birds of Prey)。此外，撲克牌與塔羅裡也有Joker，跟 Joker 也有關係嗎？

1. 認識DC漫畫的小丑
DC 的 Joker 一出場時，是個宛若精神扭曲的邪惡變態，也是極度聰明幽默的犯罪者。跟 2019 的《小丑》一樣，DC 的 Joker 原本也以喜劇演員為事業目標，卻表演不順，加上愛妻與未出世孩子都在一場化學災難中喪生，原名傑克 (Jack) 的 Joker 也意外毀容，於是便跟蝙蝠俠槓上成為宿敵。

撲克牌中的 Joker
在52張撲克牌之外，每副牌都還會有附有兩張 Joker，又稱鬼牌。在英文中這兩張多出來的牌稱為 wild card，中文是外卡。Wild 是野蠻與不受拘束之意，於是外牌又稱萬用牌，作用於極端且關鍵之時，例如可當做王牌，也可當做最低分之牌，都是最具影響力之牌。

《小丑》 (2019) 的瓦昆菲尼克斯 (Joaquin Phoenix)
小丑在 DC 漫畫中，確是個關鍵角色，看似是個低下的社會邊緣者，擔任的只是可有可無的喜劇演員，卻是個彰顯高譚市既醜陋又腐敗的關鍵，也是蝙蝠俠最無法掌握的智慧罪犯。瓦昆飾演 2019 的《小丑》，悲劇地呈現這位由正常世界墮落至動亂社會的意外王牌。

雖然與 DC 漫畫有所出入，瓦昆的小丑已是另一經典。DC 的小丑原名傑克，會成為外牌，是因為化學意外與妻兒的離世；瓦昆的小丑亞瑟，則是自小受到母親冷落欺瞞，活在母親的幻覺塑造，而產生性格扭曲，加上社會排擠與霸凌，最後走向殺人復仇的邪惡小丑。

塔羅牌中的愚人 (Fool)
除了撲克牌之外，在塔羅牌也有相對於 Joker 的一張牌，愚人。天真的愚人走在懸崖邊，一步之差就會跌得粉身碎骨，他卻毫無警覺，仍舊拈著一朵鮮花樂天地向前邁進。太陽在身後幫不了忙，愛犬也傻傻地跟在身邊。愚人牌的數字是「零」，既是失去一切，也是從頭開始。

瓦昆的小丑的確就是個走向懸崖的樂天愚人，心裡謹記母親教誨的「當個快樂的人，以及帶給他人快樂。」只是，社會霸凌他，母親欺瞞他，又沒有父親的關愛，即使是陽光燦爛也愛莫能助，最後，亞瑟只能墜落到懸崖之下，在失去一切之後，再從頭開始，改名為 Joker，重新另一種人生。

《黑暗騎士》 (2008) 的希斯萊傑 (Heath Ledger)
在諾蘭 (Christopher Nolan) 導演的《黑暗騎士》(Dark Knight)，希斯萊傑飾演的小丑是個絕對經典——聰明、理智、多謀、邪惡、又無情。雖然出現的畫面不多，他那讓人不寒而慄的陰沈冷笑，卻是縈繞整部電影最恐懼的陰影。萊傑傳神地呈現小丑，也讓他以此獲得奧斯卡與金球獎的最佳男配角。

《蝙蝠俠》 (1989) 的傑克尼克遜 (Jack Nicolson)
在1989年的《蝙蝠俠》(Batman)，尼克遜詮釋一位平凡的高譚市民如何在犯罪集團的操弄與犧牲之下，憤而徹底改變自我變身為武裝小丑。原名傑克的小丑，中計跌落化學溶劑而被侵蝕毀容，自此臉部發白、嘴唇豔紅、頭髮轉綠。此後，他研究化學武器，包括笑劑毒氣。

《自殺突擊隊》 (2016) 的加爾德·勒托 (Jared Leto)
DC漫畫中，除了《蝙蝠俠》系列，《自殺突擊隊》也有小丑，電影版本的小丑是由勒托飾演。此時，他與他的心理醫師哈莉奎茵 (Harley Quin) 陷入愛戀，奎茵自此性情大變，自願放棄正常的心理醫師脫離社會正軌，而與勒托逍遙法外成為一對嘲弄社會製造紛亂的小丑戀人。

在2016的《自殺突擊隊》，雖然勒托所飾演的小丑，扮相非常終於漫畫原著，但是出現在電影的畫面卻少得可憐。不過，那些關於勒托小丑的畫面並沒有浪費，後來都剪接放入《自殺突擊隊》的主題曲〈紫色藍寶堅尼〉的MV，充分展現小丑的貴氣與帥氣。

《自殺突擊隊》(2016) 的小丑女
比起勒托的小丑，《自殺突擊隊》裡由瑪格羅比 (Margot Robbie) 飾演的小丑女，佔有更多的戲份與畫面。羅比將小丑女的癡情瘋狂、狂妄傲慢、嬌媚性感、純真可愛、足智多謀、勇氣十足、又輕鬆打鬥等等特徵，完全集中在一個身著短褲破衫的俏皮女孩身上，絕對是小丑女之經典。

《猛禽小隊》的小丑女 (2020)
將在2020上映的《猛禽小隊：小丑女大解放》是由《自殺突擊隊》的小丑女哈莉奎茵所獨立出來的電影，由華裔導演閻羽茜執導、瑪格羅比主演。與小丑分手之後的奎茵，偕同黑金絲雀與女獵手保護受到邪惡黑面具威脅的少女該隱。這是部限制級的女性幫派電影。
