Luckin Coffee's accounting cheating, a grown-up coffee shop business explodes more branches than Starbucks.

To Kingold, a Chinese gold trading company in US stock market caught using fake gold for loan.

And recently, another company that was accused of corruption and deceiving the whole world.

That's a Nikola company that claims to produce electric and hydrogen vehicles that many people see have a chance to grow into Tesla's most important competitor, the world's most valuable car company.

Suspicious occurs because the founder of Trevor Milton has announced his sudden resignation after being accused of corruption for only 10 days.

This whole thing is pressure on Nikola company's shares falling from the highest point in June this year. Over 79 %

So what did Nikola do to be suspicious of corruption?

First let's get to know the other important character of this story. That's Hindenburg Research.

This company does a corrupt business. It's going to make huge profit from Short Sell or borrowing shares of companies that are likely to be pre-sell.

Back to the beginning of this year, Muddy Waters Research was one of the corrupted companies who took huge profit from Short Sell after they caught Luckin Coffee cheating on their record of over-sales.

Hindenburg Research has Short Sell, Nikola Stocks, and has published a 76 page long report to show proof that Nikola is running a world-wide business.

Nikola was founded in 2014 with a mission to build automotive, polluting with electric battery technology with hydrogen from the company's research and development.

With clean energy the world's investment theme, including seniors like Tesla, can achieve huge success to the value of increasingly becoming the world's most valuable car company.

Nikola is easy to earn credibility and magnetism. Investors are attracted to fundraising quickly. Fast to the Stock Exchange. After only 6 years of business.

So how much does Nikola earn now?

If we come to see the results of Nikola company.

First 6 months, year 2019 Income 4 million baht. Lost 1,477 million baht.
First 6 months, year 2020 Income 3 million baht. Lost 4,198 million baht.

Interesting is Nikola's income we see coming from another business.
Because the company actually has income from selling automotive is 0 baht..

And this is because Nikola hasn't sold a car yet because the company can't produce a really viable car. Only the prototype is still under the testing. Expected to start manufacturing by 2021

Although Nikola hasn't sold any cars yet, you know that Nikola has reached 1.1 trillion baht more than Ford, the company that sold 5.5 million cars in the past year.

Such value is the expectation of investors who believe in electric and hydrogen battery technology that can make Nikola a blast. No different than Tesla can do.

But it seems like none of these things are true..

One of the key points Hindenburg Research accuses Nikola is that this company doesn't have its own technology, but only hires other manufacturers to produce.

By some reports, Nikola has gone to order inverter, an electric truck component from Cascadia.

But after Nikola took the car out, the company claimed that the inverter was a technology manufactured by the black tape to close the Cascadia brand..

And the latest case Nikola just announced to redeem 11 % of his own company's shares in exchange for hiring GM to produce a car.

There are many investors starting to see that Nikola's technology used to produce is almost from all GM.

Apart from technology that the company is accused of

Over the time, Trevor Milton, the founder of the company, has been suspicious. Changing the launch of the model car to be manufactured into a show of just a running model car. Plus, open for the reservation to pull money into the company.

And recently after Nikola was attacked by Hindenburg Research company.

Instead, the founder of a company like Trevor Milton brought evidence to confirm transparency and confidence that the company was in the right direction, but he announced his resignation almost immediately..

The story of Trevor Milton has been linked to Elizabeth Holmes, the former owner of a single drop of blood startup, changed the world Theranos who haunted the world a few years ago.

First, let's understand the meaning of Hyperinflation.

Hyperinflation is a condition where product prices rise quickly.
Makes the country's money value go down dramatically

Why the value of money goes down
As a result, lots and lots of money flowing into the economy.
Compared to the same amount of goods and services in the economic system.
Price increases product prices quickly

An example of past severe Hyperinflation incident.
Such as in Hungary and Venezuela

Hyperinflation in Hungary happened in 1946
During that time, Hungary was heavily damaged by WWI.
Especially various infrastructure systems.

The Hungarian Government has shortage of budgets in economic revival.
So I decided to print a lot of money to repair the city's home and stimulate the economy.
Making money in Hungary's system is increasing tremendously.

As much as the amount of money increases, the domestic products are still the same.
So it makes inflation rise quickly
Hungary average product prices increase to 2 times in 15 hours.
By the moment of Hyperinflation
Hungary inflation rate rises to 150,000 % within one day.

Venezuela part of year 2019
Venezuelan inflation rises to 10,000,000

The cause of this story is similar to the case of Hungary
Well there is excessive economic system injection
Both to stimulate a slowing economy from low petrol prices.
Including to use for government's populist policies

We'll see that all 2 events have one thing in common.
Well there is a huge economic system injection.
Which leads to hyperinflation

Back at present COVID crisis-19
Many countries have measures to stimulate the economy.
With lots of money pumping into the economic system

US Central Bank
Using unlimited amount of QE measures
From the original designated price of about 22 trillion baht per year.

Central Bank of Japan
It's another country that uses unlimited amount of QE measures.
From the original designated, about 24 trillion baht per year.

European Central Bank announces more projects
In acquisition of emergency assets worth over 27 trillion baht.

It will see that many countries are now pumping a lot of money into the system.
And in many countries, I used to do heavy QE before.

For example, the case of the USA.
There has been a lot of money pumping into the economic system in the past 10 years.
Since the 2008 US Real Estate Bubble crisis.

Interesting is that US inflation rates aren't adjusted to much higher like the cases of Hungary and Venezuela.
2010 US average inflation rate equates to 1.6 %
2019 US average inflation rate equates to 1.8 %

Japan is another country where xỳāng h̄nạk measures are taken.
But inflation is still at low near 0 % as well.

Why is the story like this?

This phenomenon is partly because
US and Japan central banks make QE through asset purchases.
Both bonds, shares, loan from commercial banks.
And commercial banks are responsible for re-releasing money into the economy.

But what happens is that commercial banks don't forward the money they get from central banks.
To the business and household sector as everyone thought at first.

The cause is because during economic recession or slowdown.
Household sector tends to save money rather than bring money to spend.
Due to insecure future economic

For example, in USA.
The deposit amount in the COVID-19 pre-birth system is around 416 trillion baht.
But when COVID-19 goes viral, deposits in the system increase to almost 500 trillion baht.
Within just a few months

Meanwhile, a bad economic situation.
Making selling business sector products and services difficult.
Making production and service still very much available.
Business sector may not require a loan to expand business.

Enough demand for products and services doesn't increase higher.
Well, things don't go much higher.
Even with lots of money in the system

Another point is.
Countries with large economies like USA and Japan
Own the world's main currency with high credibility.
Most people still believe and still demand to hold these currency.

In conclusion, if you ask for QE making of big countries today.
Will it lead to severe inflation in the future?
I have to say that this problem can be difficult for big countries like USA and Japan.

But the point is, this plague crisis doesn't know when it ends.
And countries inject money log in
For a country which is economically stable as a big country, it might be careful.
Because those countries may have severe inflation, different from this case..

2019的新型冠狀病毒 (武漢肺炎病毒) 已經發生超過8 個月了，最近出生小嬰兒的孕期也已幾乎全部發生於此新型冠狀病毒流行的時代裡。 在這個新的時代，我們偏好在家吃外送，看網路電視 而比較少出門。身為婦產科醫師的我，也一直在了解它對於產婦的影響。有兩點想與大家分享。

首先，懷孕中感染並不會增加武漢肺炎的死亡率。但感染新型冠狀病毒的媽媽可能會經由胎盤垂直感染給小孩。所以孕婦戴口罩，勤洗手與社交距離的重要性再跟大家提醒。很幸運的，目前在台灣我們並沒有這樣的個案出現。

第二點是我覺得比較少人討論到的：維他命D缺乏。在台灣30歲的婦女普遍有三分之一都有維他命D的缺乏。維他命D由食物吸收，但必須靠肝，腎與(陽光照射)皮膚活化(註)。所以在這個大家因為疫情都比較少出門曬太陽的大環境裡，我覺得維他命D缺乏的比例會更高。

維他命D幫助鈣質的吸收，對於骨骼與肌肉的健康有很大的幫助。對於孕婦它甚至可能減少孕期糖尿病或子癲癇症 的風險。但至於有些報告指出維他命D缺乏可能是武漢肺炎死亡率的危險因子，英國國家衛生機構NICE 已經釋疑，認為維他命D缺乏與武漢肺炎死亡率並無因果關聯。

(註) 維他命D3是目前比較被廣泛使用的口服維他命，因其不需要經由身體活化。

It has been more than 8 months since the start of the global pandemic of COVID-19. We are now seeing the ripple reflected in the way we live, even in Taiwan. People prefer to stay home now: they order delivery food instead of going to restaurants, and watch video streaming at home instead of going out. As an obstetrician and gynaecologist, I wondered about its effect on women.

First of all, pregnancy does not increase mortality of SARS-CoV2 virus infection. But it can transmit from mother to child via their placental connection. The virus has recently been found in the placenta of a mother and newborn with COVID-19: proving vertical transmission other than routes such as breastfeeding and/or air droplet transmission. So it is worth reiterating the importance of masking at public spaces and hand hygiene for pregnant women. Luckily, in Taiwan thus far, there has not yet been any cases of vertical transmission.

The second point is less well discussed but may well affect more women. And that is Vitamin D deficiency, which is already common in Taiwan pre-COVID-19 era. Its prevalence is about one third in 30 year-olds. In the COVID-19 era, I suspect the prevalence will increase even further because people prefer staying home. Vitamin D deficiency has also been found to be more common in patients who succumb to COVID-19, although it merely reflects the association between vitamin D deficiency and multiple-comorbidities rather than a causal relationship. However, we already know that vitamin D deficiency in pregnancy can be related to a number of birth-related complications such as gestational diabetes and pre-eclampsia. So it is worthwhile testing for vitamin D levels at the beginning of pregnancy. Vitamin D3 is widely used as a supplement in patients with deficiency, because it does not require activation by sunlight.
