按摩方法大不同
一次舒適到位的按摩,可讓人消除疲勞、紓緩肌肉繃緊帶來的不適,甚至紓解情緒壓力。然而按摩手法繁多,推拿、推油、指壓、泰式按摩、腳底按摩等等,你知道它們的分別嗎?
💆🏻 中醫推拿按摩
以治療為目標的按摩,中醫師先了解患者體質及病況,會按經絡循行及穴位,以推拿、按摩以至針灸方式作治療,有助紓緩痛症。
💆🏻 推油
加入香薰精油進行按摩,讓精油滲入皮膚之中,按摩時充斥着香薰味道。推油按摩必需脫去衣物進行,由於全身抹有精油,皮膚會較為滋潤。
💆🏻 指壓
按摩師利用手指對全身經絡、穴道進行按壓,亦會針對痠痛位置進行按、揉、撥等動作,紓緩肌肉緊繃。指壓會隔着衣服進行,通常不使用工具。
💆🏻 泰式按摩
從古印度傳入泰國的按摩手法,以活動關節為主,較為大動作,類似被動式瑜珈,按摩時穿著較柔軟衣服。
🦶🏻 腳底按摩
人體五臟六腑在腳底都有相應的反射區,按摩腳底有助血氣循環,暢通血脈,有助紓緩相對應臟腑的症狀。
除了由註冊中醫師主理的推拿按摩,其餘按摩方式均為保健方法,有助減壓,促進氣血運行,強化筋骨肌肉,但未必是最適合的治療方法,如患有持續筋骨肌肉痛症,「揼骨」後症狀未有改善,宜向註冊中醫師或專業人士求診治理。

Different types of massages
A good massage can relieve fatigue, stress, and the tension in our muscles. There are so many types of massage services available in the market. Do you know the differences?
💆🏻 Traditional Chinese massage (‘tui na’)
Mainly for treatment purposes. After understanding the patients’ body constitution and health condition, Chinese medicine practitioners will then identify and massage the Meridian and acupoints on the body. They might also use acupuncture to relieve pain.
💆🏻 Oil massage
Massage using essential oils. The essential oils, which will give out fragrance, will then seep into the skin. During the session, clients will have to remove their clothes. The essential oils applied on the body will also moisten the skin.
💆🏻 The Shiatsu massage (‘zhi ya’)
Shiatsu massage therapists will massage the Meridian and acupoints of the body using their fingers. They will also press and rub to relieve muscle soreness on specific body parts. During the session, clients are fully clothed. Generally, the massage therapists do not need additional equipment to complete the session.
💆🏻 Thai massage
Inherited from ancient India, the techniques focus on the joints. Thai massage involves yoga-like big moves. During the session, clients have to put on a set of thin and soft clothes.
🦶🏻 Reflexology (foot massage)
There are reflective zones on our foot soles that represent our internal organs. A foot massage can aid the circulation of blood and qi and relieve symptoms when the functions of the internal organs are disrupted.
Besides the treatment-based traditional Chinese massage, the other massages focus more on relieving stress, improving the circulation of qi and blood, and strengthening the muscles and tendons. They might not be the best options for those with more severe medical conditions. Patients who experience continuous musculoskeletal disorders should consult registered and licensed Chinese medicine practitioner or medical experts.

168減肥法適合我嗎?
迎接夏天來臨,最近不少人都趕着減肥,熱門減肥話題就是「168斷食減肥法」,16是指一天內連續16小時不進食,於餘下的連續8小時進餐,原理是讓身體在斷食期間胰島素下降,促進脂肪被分解利用。這種減肥法看似很輕鬆,但執行時很需要自律性,如果8小時內放任亂吃東西其實不會有減肥效果,而且斷食期間的飢餓感很容易令意志力動搖。
而從中醫角度來看,每個時辰都有不同的經絡循行,早上7-9時、下午1-3時、晚上5-7時宜吃早、午、晚餐,因為分別是胃、小腸及腎經循行時間,如果胡亂調配進食時間會打亂生理時鐘,過飢過飽都容易導致消化不良,尤其脾胃虛弱人士不宜採用斷食減肥法,打亂脾胃的工作時間,使脾胃更積弱。如非必要,還是建議斷食時候喝米水,減低脾胃負擔。想減肥人士宜先諮詢註冊中醫師,了解體質後才決定使用哪種減肥方式較安全及有效。

Is the 16/8 diet for me?
Summer is around the corner, and many people are in a hurry to shed some pounds. One of the trendiest topics is the ‘16/8 intermittent fasting’, which refers to 16 hours of fasting and 8 hours of eating.
According to this theory, insulin reduces during the fasting period, allowing the body to burn off fats. This diet might seem easy, but discipline is key. Individuals will not lose weight if they binge eat during the 8-hour period, and some might not have the willpower to stay hungry for 16 hours.
From the perspective of Chinese Medicine, the human body has its own Meridian Circulation based on specific hours. We should have our breakfast, lunch, and dinner at 7am-9am, 1pm-3pm, and 5pm-7pm respectively. Each of the 2-hour intervals represents the active hours of the circulation of the stomach, small intestines, and kidneys.
Taking meals at the wrong time would disrupt the biological clock. Likewise, overeating or undereating can also cause indigestion. Individuals who with weak spleen and stomach should avoid adopting intermittent fasting as a part of their weight loss regime. If the spleen and stomach do not perform their functions at a specific time, these organs would then become weaker.
If need be, one can still drink rice water during intermittent fasting to reduce the burden on the spleen and stomach. Those who wish to lose weight should consult registered and licensed Chinese physicians first to understand their body constitutions. Doing so can help them identify the safest and most effective plan to lose weight.

最怕冷的五種人
暖貼應該貼邊度?
遇上寒流來襲,明明著衫已經「包到隻糉」仍然覺得凍?從中醫角度來看,氣滯、陽虛、氣虛、血虛體質的人最怕冷,因為寒凝氣滯令熱力未能暢達全身;陽虛人士身體熱能不足,而氣血虛弱的人血液循環不暢,容易出現手腳冰冷的情況。另外,腎虛的人亦特別畏冷,因為腎氣是人體元氣之根本,腎虛人士未能產生足夠體溫以禦寒。
自身燃料不足,唯有借用外來熱力,暖包暖貼就是禦寒恩物,暖包握在手中可以緩解「寒冰掌」,但熱力很快消散。暖貼熱力相對持久,不過記得要貼對位置,抗寒能力才會大增。
暖貼三大位置(建議貼在衣服上的相對位置)
後頸:大椎穴(頸後正中,明顯突起的骨頭位置),有升陽補虛作用。
肚:神闕穴(肚臍正中央)和關元穴(臍下約3寸),有助溫通經絡。
背:腰背的命門穴(與前肚臍中相對),有助固本培元,強身防病。
要注意暖包要貼在衣服上,不宜直接貼在皮膚上,以免燙傷皮膚,或者用手巾包著放在需要位置使用。小孩、長者、皮膚敏感人士使用暖包時要尤其小心,而睡覺時不宜使用暖包暖貼,因為暖包放在床鋪內溫度會比正常高,慎防過熱灼傷。

Five types of people with aversion to cold
Where should we place the heat pad?
Why do we still feel cold when we have wrapped ourselves up like a taco during winter? From the perspective of Chinese Medicine, individuals with the stagnation of the qi, as well as those with deficiency of the yang, qi and blood would develop aversion to cold.
This is because the stagnation of the qi would trap the cold and the circulation of heat in the body becomes disrupted. Individuals with yang deficiency would have a lack of body heat, whereas individuals who are weak in the qi and blood would have poor blood circulation. This is why their limbs are always cold.
Individuals with a weak kidney also have aversion to cold because this organ is the source of the qi in the body. Having a weak kidney also means the body is incapable of producing enough energy to keep the body warm.
If the body cannot provide sufficient heat to keep us warm, we will have to rely on external sources like heat pads and hand warmers. Having hand warmers can keep our palms warm but its effect is not long lasting. On the contrary, heat pads can release heat for a longer time, but make sure you place them on the right spots to maximize its effectiveness.
The three most suitable spots to place heat pads (stick them on the inside of the clothes)
The back of the neck: the Da Zhui acupoint (in the middle of the back of your neck where you can feel the protruding bone); can help replenish yang
Stomach: the Shen Que acupoint (in the middle of the belly button) and Guan Yuan acupoint (3 inches below the belly button); can warm the Meridian and improve its circulation
Back: the Ming Men acupoint (the corresponding spot of belly button on the back); can strengthen and restore the energy of the body as well as strengthen the immune system
Remember to stick the heat pads on the clothes and not on the skin. This is to avoid burning our skin. You can also wrap the heat pads with a towel and place it on specific areas. Children, elders and individuals with sensitive skin should be extra cautious when using heat pads. Avoid using hand warmers and heat pads during sleep. Their temperature would increase when they are placed beneath the blanket, and we might risk burning ourselves during the night.
