At the age of ten, even though I still call her my baby girl, this big girl of mine is blossoming into a fine young lady.
I used to think that parenting would get easier over the years but she has proven to me that it doesn't, haha. While the first few years of looking after a toddler and preschooler were physically exhausting, it is the tween age that made me realise we am in a different ball game altogether. In a sense, it is more challenging mentally and emotionally nowadays because I am dealing with a kid who is smarter than me, as stubborn as me, and much stronger than me.
Yup, not easy at all, yet we wouldn't have it any other way, would we? That is how we learn together, fail together, laugh together, cry together and then grow together.
She constantly amazes me by how meticulous and detailed she is, how neat and organised she is with her schoolwork, how she is in love with creepy crawlies (yikes!) and yearns to be an entomologist, how she can memorise a long string of numbers in a flash, how she reads every and any kind of book, how she dreams about the future and hopes to make a difference.
I keep reminding myself to be fair to her because it is never easy being a firstborn, to not expect her to give in and take care of her younger siblings all the time, to remember that she is still a child who needs Mama's love, needs to feel special, and needs to be appreciated for who she truly is.
Thank you for teaching me so much about being a mum, dear Angel, and for not giving up on me when I make mistakes. Together, we can do this, yeah? I love you so, so much.
